The original recipe said 0.5 cups oats/1.5 cups liquid per person. I doubled it for 2 of us but we each had a huge plateful. Next time I would use the double quantity (1 cup oats/3 cups liquid) for 3 smaller helpings (there are 3 of us, but only two were eating on that particular occasion). However, people's portions vary so see what suits you. Remember, bring to boil and then leave on a low simmer for 5 mins. Hope you enjoy.

because of the morning frantic rush I have oats so simple original, stockpiled when £1 for 10. (10p a go). You can measure the milk in the sachet, but recently they gave away bowls with a line on the inside so all I have to do is pour it in up to the line and microwave for 2.5 mins in an 850 watt. I know this isn't old style, but how much do you actually save per day for the extra aggro of measuring the oats out? And if you dont measure, how do you know how much liquid, and how long to cook?
Playing devils advocate I suppose, but 10p for the cereal doesn't seem too bad and leaves not much room for moneysaving.0 -

I just guess: pour some oats in saucepan, tiny bit of salt, splash of milk, splash of water, bring to boil and simmer for 3 mins - if it's too thick just add a bit more water/milk if it's too runny (which is rarely) I just add some more oats. I almost do it on the hob though as I think it tastes much better, if I do it in the nuker I have to measure to avoid cement/ volcanos.
As long as you fill the saucepan with hot, soapy water as soon as you empty it, cleaning is never a problem and I don't use a non-stick pan (don't have any except for frying pans)."The happiest of people don't necessarily have the

The microwave secret is to use a much larger bowl than the mixture needs as it boils up to more than twice its size as you boil it.Member #8 of the SKI-ers Club
