    Hi.

Well done, hopefully all of you joined in on the shop.

My comments would echo the above; but what's your menu plan for the week to go alongside this?

    My first comment would be the bread, £2.70 for bread for the week;

Did I type £2:70? I meant £1:70 - it looked like a good offer and both loaves are in the freezer as we don't use much bread in the week.

I changed over to making my own and a big bag of flour can last a good few weeks; we have cut down to one loaf a week for 2 of us, and you can make your own rolls...really is filling when it is homemade.

The only other thing I would say is the lack of rice and pasta there; have you already got these in the cupboard or don't you eat them?

We have a lot of pasta in the cupboards, but equally we don't eat very much of it - and we never eat rice.

And isn't meat expensive? I haven't eaten it for 23 years so never look at it; hopefully that joint will do 2 or 3 meals? Sorry, I haven't clue on meaty things.

Yep, that joint will do for two meals, and possibly some buns for packed lunches

Hope the week goes well, and well done for getting the shop down to a manageable amount.

    Thanks.
We've decided to aim for £55 a week for a shop, and see how that goes...

well done on reducing your bill by half - that's a really good start.

i'm sure others will have comments, but just a couple of things.....

for example, 60p is the tops i will pay for liquid soap/handwash. 69p for either 15 or 20 m of foil.

Yeah, the foil we bought was 30m and the handwash is for my sensitive skin...

good luck too with your work this week x

    Thanks chuck

    Hi.

I meant £2.70 for the bread and the buns [rolls???].

Anyway - £55 is a good amount to aim for!

    Hope it goes well.

    Hi blushing rose,

what sort of work do you usually do? Or at the moment would anything do? (I know you're getting a bit of temp work). Have you tried any local shops?

I've been doing reception/office work recently.

I've worked in retail before, many moons ago, but now have a health issue whereby i can't stand for very long :-(

but what's your menu plan for the week to go alongside this?

i must admit this is something i loosely do every week. i always have a freezer full of reduced items and extra portions of leftovers/stuff that i've batch cooked.

before we go shopping i think 'right we need 6/7 evening meals'. (bfasts/lunches are cereal/porridge and either leftovers or s/wiches). i look at what we've got already and only buy to go with that - we sometimes have something simpler (had lots of eggs left the other day so had omlettes) or change the days around. tonight we had frozen fish (me) and chicken thigh fillets OH (says nicer than breast and cheaper at £2.48 for 6/500g) with mash and frozen peas. tomorrow mushroom stroganoff (fresh sauce reduced to 19p - i bought 3 at the time) with an chicken thigh for OH.

i went to tescos today and spent £10 - except it only cost me £5 as i used £5 of money off coupons. i am going back daily at the mo as i have lots of coupons to use up by thurs.
  • Hi there chilli if you like it is dead cheap to make also os spag bol and lasagne we all love these oh and you can make a great casserole with chicken thighs just throw in potatoes carrots onions and any other veg you like thicken with stock cubes and cornflour.hope this gives you a few ideas.

Blushing Rose all the MSEers tell us we need a breadmaker - what do u reckon - will it end up an expensive piece of kitchen equipment that could have cleared a store card lurking in the depths of a cupboard next to the hand blender and slow cooker!! ;) Athough have to admit iv dusted off the slow cooker since coming onto this site.:D
