iTunes cd or cheaper download?

Hello can anyone please help?
Last night i tried to download iTunes on a dial up (pay per minute) connection. I was told it would take 15 hours to download, so cancelled it. Is there anyway i can get hold of a CD to install iTunes (or can a friend of mine who is on Broadband) download it to disc easily enough? Firstly i don't fancy leaving my computer running AND connected to the internet for 1 hours and secondly it will cost quite i bit just to downlaod iTunes.
Any help is greatly appreciated

unless you have a mac with the OS you will not get itunes on a disc. As you said get your friend to download it on their broadband connection then copy he file across to a disk for you

    Lee634,
No i don't have MAC OS. I have Windows - thanks for the advice though, i will ask my friend to download it to CD and will use that, you've saved me a good few hours of tearing my hair out looking at that damn green bar.

Any problems after come back and give us a shout and i'll see if I can help
  • If you have an ipod, then the CD that comes with it will have itunes already on.

If you dont have an ipod, then you might want to find a different service, maybe a web based one, which doesnt have DRM (digital rights management). This would mean not having to download any software (apart from the songs you choose)

ooberandy, i have an iPod, but didn't get a CD with it. I bought it from Curry's - am i being jibbed out of something?

On a seperate issue, i have just tried this morning to use the CD that was downloaded for me - unfortunately when i click onto the CD drive then the icon it only gives me the option to copy. When i look in the general tab in options it states "shortcut not available", i think my mate must have copied it wrong, the file says Apple Inc. and it's 55mb so it looks like the proper thing??? Any help anyone (lee634???) If not then i'll have to stick it out with a strong coffee and wait until the wee hours for it to download.

My iPod shuffle came with a CD but nano did not.

First copy the file from CD to your HDD. Put it on your desktop. It should be called iPodsetup.exe. Next double click or right click and open the file to launch the program.

Apple stopped supplying iTunes CD's with iPods some time ago. Apparently it was so they could make the packaging smaller so it was more environmentally friendly!

It ought to be easy,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, but I still use a slide rule and log tables to add up more than 10.

I guess you will want to download music sometime soon for your iPod? You really will need broadband to download.

I don't believe that, they could easily include a mini-cd with the current packaging, more likely a way of cutting costs/increasing profits, particularly when you consider any version provided on cd will be out of date and replaced once bought. They could have put itunes on the ipod itself to be accessed in disk mode.
