phone unlocked from local shop
Options
Went to unlock my N73 phone today from the local shop. Gave the phone to them, confirmed with them that any sim card would work in it after, they said yes. Previously I had 2 of my older phone done there, no problems.
Went to pick it up after about an hour. To my surprise, all of the applications on the phone such as eBay, Skype, MSN Messenger have been deleted!!! Plus all my pictures, videos and contacts.
Started to question them, only to receive an answer "We have to flash these phones anyway". But why wasnt I told that I would lose everything before he even touched my phone!? He kpt repeating to me that theres nothing we can do, its all gone now.
They basically messed up my phone competely. He offered to send it to Nokia to get the applications back, when Nokia dont even do them, its actually the "three" network.
Should actually take this up with the Local Standards Trading Office.
Anyone been in the same situation before?

Firmware upgrades do not usually delete stuff. It is usually a factory reset which does that. Also you might find it difficult to use three (planet 3) with a unbranded mobile.0

They haven't done a firmware upgrade, they flashed it with generic firmware.
Things likes photos that the op had on the phone are gone. The shop should have mentioned it first.
You can reflash the 3 software back to the N73. Every firmware has a code that is used to identify it, your firmware will currently have the generic code. There is a free program about that will allow you to change this code to whatever the code for the 3 firmware is. That should then allow you to connect to the Nokia server and that should offer you an "upgrade" to the latest 3 firmware which will put all you shortcuts back.
I don't have it to hand now and I've got to get to the post office with today's phone sales, but if someone hasn't already posted it, I'll post the links later on.0 -
The N73 prduct code for the 3 network version is : 0541479
The software to change the product is NSS http://www.b-phreaks.co.uk/files/NSS/NSS103810.zip0 -
Thanks a lot for the help guys.
Road_Hog, would be really grateful for the links. Thanks again0 -
The nokia firmware updates always suggest you backup your phone to a memory card before upgrading. Network providers usually provide a code to unlock the phone which means it wont need to be flashed.A dAy WiThOuT wInE iS lIkE a DaY wItHoUt SuNsHiNe0
