Principles shirts

I have a shirt from Principles. Its striped and made of crinkle type cotton mix fabric-supposed not to need ironing.

Last week I wore the shirt to work and was appalled and astonished to see that during the day the sleeves began to shred. I didnt have a cardigan or anything with me that day so had to suffer working in a large office with a shirt that is obviously rags.

I sent off an email to Principles and they came back with a request to send the shirt to them by post.

Now what I want to know is:
What would you ask to happen next?(given I work in a large office and was in great discomfort for a lot of the day)

And should I ask for postage costs?

The shirt is not new - but neither is the majority of my wardrobe  and nothing like this has ever happened before.

    How old was the shirt?

Principles are usually very good. As to what they will do, I would say it depends on the age of the shirt x

Some vouchers to cover the cost of a new shirt and postage at best.

To be honest, I wouldn't go into the bit about working in a large office and feeling discomfort - emotional responses cloud the facts and don't add anything to your point.
I agree that the age of the shirt will have an impact on their response - how old was it?

    Thanks for the replies.
I dont know how old the shirt is exactly. Its the newish type of fabric that is permanently crinkled .So perhaps a couple of years old? I dont actually wear it much so its not worn out with age. In fact the body of the shirt remains whole its only the sleeves that shredded . And I have many shirts of similar age and older that haven't shredded so its not the laundry process.
I do disagree though that my discomfort at having to wear a ragged shirt has nothing to do with the complaint. If I worked alone or in more casual surroundings then my annoyance would be a lot less,if not non-existent.

I will be sending the shirt tomorrow .Do I include a note with further information (as above) and a request for postage and/or compensation or do I just refer to my email and their reply and let them decide ?

Just had a look on Ebay and this is very similar. The shredding happened along the stripes but only on the arms.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GORGEOUS-PRINCIPLES-PINK-BROWN-SHIRT-Size-14_W0QQitemZ360014484560QQihZ023QQcategoryZ314QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Include a note with an account of what occured - just facts, no emotion or mention of discomfort at this point.

End the letter with something along the lines of "look forward to your reply" and see what initial response you get once they have taken a look.

As I am sure you are, I would ensure that package can be traced with delivery confirmation.

TBH because the shirt is a few years old, I doubt you will get very far. It could be argued that storage conditions may have contributed to the problem. However, as I said before, Principles customer service does tend to be very good, so hopefully they will send you some vouchers.

I'm interested in what you hope that they will offer you?

  • I am surprised that you are complaining about it since it is a couple of years old. Good luck to you!

    Oh absolutely nothing actually.
Its just that I recalled previous complaint queries that have been advised to include certain bits of vital information but unfortunately couldn't recall exactly what.
Im not looking for mega bucks as compensation (fat chance anyway!).Im more interested in the explanation as to why this has happened really. Yes,I was annoyed at work because of the state of my clothes but also kind of fascinated by the process of degeneration.

I take the very valid points that the age of the shirt matters but surely this is a very rare occurrence? I hope so anyway.
