    You need to work out whether the job will be worth taking part-time. calculate all the benefits you would get if you weren't working against what you would get part-time working + benefits. It may be that working part time means you lose too many benefits and it actually costs you!

    I was just going to point out what silvercar said - also check the position re any redundancy payout. It would be difficult to let go of a job you love but you know best how easy it would be to get part time work which will fit round your son.
