Late addition to this thread but may help someone doing a search for information:

Someone here recommended the Segoia hotel which is widely very well reviewed. Was looking into this and found that Hotels.com have it for £65 per night off season, almosthalf the cost of some of the other sites (including Venere.com). However also found out about the Villa Igea which is the Boutique sister hotel of the Segoia and indeed you share their facilities, including Breakfast. This is available from £45 per night off season, again through Hotels.com and has superb reviews including from the Ney York Times. Looks like an absolute bargain. Remember Hotels.com gets you £10 per booking through Quidco.

Secondly, if anyone is looking for a much cheaper alternative. Ive previously stayed at the Hotel Giardinetto. This is available for 40Euros per night through active hotels. This is a bargain, however note it is not on Venice Island. Its on Lido which is the opposite island. It is right by the Boat Station and take 10 minutes on the extremely regular boat serviceto hop across to St Marks and elsewhere up the Grand Canal. Ive stayed there myself and recommended if to others who cant afford the high prices elsewhere. Its a standard, clean, 2 star and makes a great base. The view of Venice as you go over on the boat is excellent. Many people choose Mestre as a cheaper alternative to Venice itselft and then get the train each day into Venice however staying on Lido is much more preferable and the boat ride beats the train anyday.

Finally, Ive been to Venice in November previously and loved it. Much quieter, clear days, a little cool but it had an excellent atmosphere and of course, much lower hotel rates.

Try venere.com or crystals Italy section sells hotel accommodation separately. We stayed at Gardena hotel which is a stones throw from the bus station where your ryanair transfer bus gets in. Is also close to main rail station and grnd canal. Enjoy your trip.
