• Steph, I would recommend and NLP counsellor, they often use hypnosis to help instill the knowledge and make it feel more natural rather than just "something you've been told" but hypnosis can only help if the information instilled is useful and it's not good at going against your nature so if the hypnotherapist says "you don't like chocolate" but you do, it simply won't work. The reason why Paul McKenna is successful at all is that hypnosis plays a very small part in what he does, he's first and foremost and NLP practitioner these days - most of my weight loss came from watching the tv programmes so no hypnosis at all at first. I only bought the cds some while later when I felt I needed some support in keeping the concepts fresh in my mind - it's so easy to drift back to the tv with your plate!
Good luck, if I can do it anyone can!

I bought the book a couple of years ago but couldn't stand listening to him. I found him really over theatrical and patronising; things that just aren't needed for effective hypnosis. Sold my copy on Ebay.

Others have obviously found him useful though so if you do decide to go for it have a look in the QVC shops. The one in Warrington had loads of them in the other week for about £15 (the one with extra bits that they sell on QVC, not the one you can get in Asda!)

I'd suggest trying the free trance download on his website and see if you like his voice and style. A lot of people swear by Glenn Harrold but his voice grates on me so badly I just can't listen to more than a few minutes and certainly can't go into a trance. Paul McKenna, on the other hand, suits me just fine !

Thank god someone else thought this about glenn harold. I thought his voice was like a comedy voice and couldn't bear to listen to it. PMcK was a lot better. I used various tapes for different things and I do think it's worth a go, if nothing else buying it and committing to listening to it encourages you to focus on your goals.

BTW most of the PMcK stuff is half price on amazon at the minute. Don't forget to go through nectar eshops to get nectar points....

i did his nlp course through work (7 days) queit liked it , i like his voice an have some of his cds on my ipod useufl to make you feel human on the way into work sometimes. you get the course 25% cheaper (i think was about £1000 if your work pay for it dunno if same with weight loss one - if youa re self employed or have understandign employers may be worth trying that with the weight loss ones he does. also there is referrals for oding the nlp course £200 but better to get the 25% . doing that course lets you set up as an nlp practitioner. . he has a 4 part weight loss show on sky 3 i think it is, one of the freeview channels quiet often i think it has been on in the last few weeks and is similar programme to what he is selling on qvc.

• Hi,

I was surprised to find out how many people found Paul's books/CDs unhelpfull. That is why decided to tell about my expirience. I bought his book change your life in 7 days a couple of years ago. Remember thinking at the time "here's another one of them "magic" books, which of course will be a waste of money". Suppose the reason I bought it anyway, was the desperation, so emotionally drained after few tuff months, I decided to give it a go.
Well, when I read, that he had a job that he didn't really like and a small pay and how he doubled his salary withing a year as well as getting a great job using his methods, I thought that it would be so wonderfull if by simply reading his book and following his advice I might achieve the same.

I am pleased to let you all know that I have indeed more than doubled my salary, have a much better and interesting job, I feel much happier and more in control of my life. Recently I have ticked another 3 things of my wish list that even a year ago seemed impossible.

I would say that miracles are possible if you beileve. Good luck & hope you guys sucseed.

Still in big debt, but working my way through it.

• i'm back on the Paul McKenna 'i can make you thin' book - which i bought a year or so ago. Last time i used it, i lost a stone but i had an unrelated illness and i got out the habit of listening to the CD and went back to my old habits.
I found the book very interesting and the CD a little cheesy at first. But i think for the price of £7.99-£9.99 it's very cheap and worth a try.
What i like about it compared to 'diets' is that i don't obsess over food when i'm on this programme - i guess it's because you don't have to cut out anything from your diet! Yay!
You eat what you want, when you want as long as you are hungry, eat slowly.and stop eating when you're full.

There's no doubting that the cheese factor of his cd's are ridiculously high! My OH wanted to listen to mine out of curiousity so I left him to it and within minutes all I could hear was hysterical laughter :rotfl:

That said I've lost half a stone since listening to them in Jan and find his advice pretty sensible. I try and ignore the psuedo-american accent and focus on the advice and techniques as i find 'em surprisingly constructive

• I am not trying to lose weight, but I'd like to join in to discuss hypnotherapy soundtracks.

I like Paul McKenna - though it annoys me that I have to purchase a book that I will never read to get a 30 minute soundtrack. The old ones he did in his Sony days are dated now - I wouldn't bother. Of the ones that come with books, I have 2 - Change Your Life In 7 Days and I Can Make You Rich. There is a significant amount of overlap between the two soundtracks. The 7 days one is better content wise, but the newer Rich one has better sound effects. They both have good music, both bombard you with content, and both have good hypnotherapy technique.

I have two Glenn Harrold CDs - "Unleash Your True Potential" and "Ultimate Guide To Relaxing Sleep". The sleep one contains a 27 minute soundtrack, and is excellent (it makes me forget the issues of the day and sends me to sleep). Unleash has two 28 min soundtracks, so represents fair value, and has good music on it. I don't agree with him asking the listener to say affirmations out loud during the process - it breaks the trance, and if one's wife is in bed with one, one cannot sensibly do it anyway. The content is reasonable - when I first got Unleash, I used to listen to it every day - but it has been a while since I listened recently.

Finally, I have bought "Self Discipline" from http://www.instant-hypnosis.com/ . The site has a large range of subjects, so one can target one's requirements accurately. The soundtrack is good, but is 55 minutes long - so I often find myself listening to a McKenna soundtrack when I really wanted to use the more targeted instant-hypnosis one, simply due to time constraints. My credit card bill came to £8, which was nearly £2 more than I was expecting (something to do with currency changing as best I remember - but isn't the credit card company supposed to deal with that?). For the money, you get to download an MP3 file. If you don't like it, you can claim a refund (a maximum of one per person to avoid abuse).
• I bought Paul McKenna's book & cd last year todate I have lost 3.5 stone and hopefully I will continue to lose more. I would recommend it to anyone it was the best £6 I have ever spent
