Schnauzer Breeder in Scotland

Hi,

We are currently looking to get a dog, and the current Mrs Counter has identified a miniature Schnauzer as a good candidate for a family dog.

However despite trawling through the internet, I am struggling to find many Schnauzers available in Scotland. (We stay in the central belt.)

Thanks in advance if anyone knows where I can get one.

It's a pity you don't live in the south east, we have a mini Schnauzer in our rescue centre.

Don't tell me that! I am desparate for a Schnauzer! You've almost got me driving down from Manchester to give it a cuddle!

I would be wary of buying a pup from sources like epupz or any kind of free-ad. These are often outlets for puppy farmers, back-yard-breeders, etc, who don't conform to any standard or code of ethics, and as such don't carry out appropriate health checks etc. Reputable breeders often have waiting lists for their dogs and don't have to advertise. :)

You can email the Miniature Schnauzer Club for a list of breeders through their website.

She's an ex puppy farm breeding b.i.t.c.h who is very nervous of adults because the farmers wasn't very nice to her, bless her. They are lovely dogs though.

  • You can also do a search for accredited KC breeders with litters for sale on the Kennel Club website. There's a lady with pups for sale in Glasgow, but it did say ready the first week in Jan, so they may be all gone. Worth a try.

  • Not sure is you are looking for a schnauzer or a miniature schauzer, or a giant for the matter, but whatever breed it is your best bet is to go though the relevant breed club as already suggested. Make sure that the breeder you buy from carries out all the required genetic tests as laid out by the breed clubs, these will include hip-scoring (for giant and possibly for standard schnauzers), eye-testing for Progressive Retinal Atrophy and Hereditary Cataracts in Miniatures. Ask to see the certificates as proof of satisactory result in these tests. Good luck.

I think the Giant Schnauzer is far too big, so probably be the miniature. Thansk for the pointers on the questions to ask.
