Hi

I took out my first mobile contract on 10 July 04 with vodafone and it is due to expire soon, If i dont renew with them now then will they assume I am having another years contract or will I be able to cancel at a months notice now that I have served my 12 months?.

Thanks

1 months notice - if you want to keep the mobile number remember to ask for the PA code / PAC - this seems to take them a couple of days to generate (well that's what they told me last week)
    Cheers

  • Rang Orange for my PAC code the other night. Guy on the phone said it would be out in a text message. Arrived 3 seconds after I ended the call. :D
Last year I did the same with O2, and I'm still waiting for the PAC code.

The 12 months contract is a munimum of 12 months, so it continues until you cancel it, (i'm on my 8th year with Vodafone).

Before you write to cancel or ask for your PAC code, ask what they can offer you, say you have seen a certain phone free with so many minutes and so many texts for X amount per month, say if they can't match it or beat it then you will be forced to leave.

Sometimes you will get a good deal to stay, and sometimes you will get an advisor who is late for their break and will say they can't offer you anything , so you go and they can have a fag. (i've seen it happen).

    No harm in asking first.

I stopped using contract mobile almost 2 years ago now, had been on contract since 1996, realised using mobiles was a big waste of money. Now I try and avoid calling and using mobiles, saves a lot of money, if more people did the same then maybe we would see the costs coming down.

Isn't it strange how PAC and MAC are the new PIN.

PAC = Port Authorisation Code, yet we see people use Port Authorisation Code Code (PAC code).

MAC = Migration Authorisation Code, yet we see people use Migration Authorisation Code Code (MAC code).

PIN = Personal Identity Number, yet we see people use Personal Identity Number Number (PIN Number).
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

I'd second that. I call Vodafone when my contract expires each year and they usually offer a good deal to keep me there....................aswell as a new phone:).

Does anyone know what happens if you give notice too late and go a few days into the 13th month - do they charge you for a full month or just for the few days?
  • In most cases, your original contract will state that you enter into a 'rolling' monthly contract after the initial 12 month period. This means you will be billed for a whole month, if even one day over the stipulated cancellation notice.

After the 12 months, do you get to keep the phone if you leave them, and if so do they give the PAC/MAC for free so it can be used elsewhere or is it payable?

Yes you keep the phone, your PAC will be free if the account you pay is direct to a network and not a reseller whereby some do charge a small fee.

The phone you have paid for in the high monthly rental you pay.
