Why the heck shouldn't they????0 -
daveboy wrote:Finnerty - that wouldn't happen to me because I wouldn't expect the DSS (or rather the tax payer) to pay for me to live.
James240 - I'm entitled to say what I think just as you are.
Well I was the tax payer for a few years before I had a child and I don't feel ashamed for taking money back from them to raise my child I will be returning to work and all the money I have 'Scrounged' in benefits will be given back to them threefold plus over the next 30 years of paying tax ;-)
I will be thinking of you down the pub tomorrow, when I drink that pint of lager your tax payed for ;-):A0 -
I think this thread is getting a bit personal now and going away from what was originally posted. Its now become a bit of a "slanging match"."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0

Hey finnerty Have one on me as well you deserve it especially after having a child :T and in fact have two :j :j especially after daveboy's comments! LOL

Finnerty - Speaking as a fellow "scrounger", I look at myself as being paid by the Government of this country to raise law abiding and decent future tax payers. I am at home for my children whenever they need me and do not expect another person to look after them while I go out to work so that I can have 2 holidays a year and a nice car. I suppose it all comes down to priorities!
I would not be recieving benefits at all if my waste of space ex-husband had not decided that a single life without the restrictions of children was far more fun! Just goes to show that you never know what is just around the corner. There are far too many people in this world who are arrogant, obnoxious bigots that percieve themselves to be far higher up the chain of evolution than us poor mortals!
BTW Daveboy - I speak as one who has never been in debt, does not own a credit card and believes in saving for everything I have. I have not even had an overdraft so does that make me more perfect than you? I do feel sorry for you, because if your life ever does crumble under your feet, you have one hell of a long fall for that ego of yours!
Georgie- I too apologise for hi-jacking your thread but I have to agree with what the other guys have said, the T&C's are there, and you signed them when you got the overdraft. Hi Georgie
Personally, I feel that as it is "your" bank account-so you are responsible for it. You can't blame the bank for incurring charges when you've spent money that is theirs and NOT yours! You knew you were overdrawn but went ahead and spent more money.
Keep to the T&C and you will be fine.
Each time a cheque, direct debit or standing order is bounced-this worsens your credit rating!
Ive always been very careful with my accounts and have only bounced a cheque once (im 30) and they sent me a letter saying there was no fee as I hadnt done it beforeI would have paid though-as it was totally my fault. You live and learn and its never happened again.

Sorry Georgie for highjacking your thread :-)
Ty James240 It is good to see that not everyone has the same bigoted attitudes towards single mothers ...I'd have taken u up on that offer of 2 pints but i didn't go out in the end :-( maybe next week eh
Here Here!! Tabbykatt very well said ...We do work as hard as anyone else and deserve to be paid for it... I for one would prefer to go to work as it is so much easier than looking after a child, but i would be worse off moneywise and my child would have to be left with strangers :-(:A0 -
is there any point in this thread any more? it has just turned into a slanging match.
ok so dave maybe wasnt particularly tactful but his post at least got his point across.
on the other hand .....
tabbykatt.... im not entirely sure what your post proclaiming that in your opinion all daves must bearrogant, obnoxious bigot that percieves themselves to be far higher up the chain of evolution than us poor mortals!
was meant to achieve?
pointless and rude is all i can see in it
georgie it is a lot of money and it may seem harsh but ultimately you have to try to run your acount better. if its your first offence, look to have some of them waived as a goodwill gesture.
remember though you are at fault and any waiving of charges is a gesture and is not compulsory.
admit to the bank you have messed up and ask for some assistance. i frequently have customers call who are too arrogant to believe it could be their mistake. that achieves nothing but annoying the member of staff you are dealing with.
keep calm, explain the situation and accept whatever decision is made and learn from it is the best advise i can give
good luck

I do agree with you David on the first point but was there any real point (other than provocating a response) in Daveboys post regarding the DSS?
On the front page of this forum it states-" Remember there's no such thing as a stupid question, pls be nice to all MoneySavers!"
Even the title of the Debt Free Wannabe thread is-"A place of mutual support for those struggling to get out of debt plus help from other debt nerds"
However Daveboy, throughout this forum, seems to demonstrate a total disregard for other posters feelings and concerns, and the majority of his replies seem to ridicule and mock others. Where then is he 'getting his point across'? We are all here for two reasons and they are to get help and to help others wherever we can. I am a 'newbie' to this forum but have met bullies like Daveboy in others, and to be honest I would hope that a 25yr old male could find a more constructive hobby than mocking people that may be going through hard enough times as it is?davidcampbell wrote:pointless and rude is all i can see in it
Yes I do agree with this David and I have edited my post subsequently. I was pidgeon-holing anyone with the name of Dave and this is unfair and lowering myself to the standards of others. Please accept my sincere apologies for a callous comment typed in the heat of the moment.
But I do stand by my other views in the original post and the unfortunate hi-jacking of Georgies original post.Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new...... Albert Einstein0 -
not disagreeing with your views just the way they were expressed. guess i took it personally being a "dave".
fair play in changing it though. thanks
appreciate it wasnt meant and was just a reaction to previous posts. apology accepted0
