I'm fairly new to comping and had no probs in the way Dalkirst phrased his post
Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time

I think there has just been a misunderstanding, I remember when I first started comping and I saw check the thanks it sounded short to me until I realised what the poster meant. Dalkirst meant no offence and and wasnt being rude but to Bettiepage that is what it sounded like, now its all got a little out of hand and feathers ruffled over a misunderstanding. ;)

Ahh bless, darren you keep on doing it, I'm sure everyone here knows you don't mean any offence, I would easily double up if it wasn't pointed out. Time is valuable when you are comping so the check the thanks is quick and easy and lets everyone move on to the next comp.
Please don't let one persons view get to you.
I know when i've duplicated i'm relieved someone pulls me up fast, i would be mortified if someone missed out becaue of a duplicate.

There's one thing I dont understand though...
    'check the thanks'

What does that mean exactly and how do I do that????

    ****
It can be very off putting when people are sharp in response. We do search before posting, I search on the URL of the comp..which is obviously not fool proof.

Thanks for those that mentioned it..maybe the sharpness isn't always commented on....but that doesnt mean it isn't noticed.

The thing is...don't put people off....that one comp that they are out off from listing may just be the one you win!!!
    Good Luck All

Check the thanks means, if you check the original post and see if you have thanked the original op you have entered and wont duplicate your entry and maybe invalidate it.

oh...thanks for that, I thought it was some way of checking if it had been listed before by checking the thanks you do....
    So...cheers for that

Dalkirst, thanks very much for pointing out its been posted before and helping people not to disqualify themselves from the comp.

Or in compers language - I clicked the thanks button on your post. We spend so many hours looking for comps, entering comps and checking that there aren't duplictaes so as to help people, you'd think people would understand the benefit of using shorthand to make things run smoother.

Of course if people had read the the sticky threads about how to search and how to post or looked at another 10 duplicates threads people wouldn't be getting so upset.

Rharni & Bettiepage, I'm really not having a go either - I hope you'll find this a really friendly forum (have a look at 1won1won, the discussion thread or compers arms), we all appreciate people finding & sharing comps, and everyone posts duplicates from time to time and Dalkirst & others are really just being equally helpful to stop people inadvertently disqualifying themselves.

  • I stopped pointing out duplicates after I got some nasty pm's from newbies objecting to 'check the thanks' I now leave them for other people to point out - I avoid duplicating my own entry, but unfortunately no longer help other people to do the same. I found it wasn't worth the hassle.
