Hi
Have about $1000 that I need to convert back to sterling in next couple of days so we have some spending money for our next holiday in Cuba next week. Can anyone point me in the direction of where I will get the best rate and maximise my money? We don't live anywhere near London so no point at looking at any agencies there.
Thank you in anticipation.

I don't quite understand why you are converting $ to sterling to take to Cuba as spending money.
You will get a much better deals using US$ in Cuba than offering sterling. Everyman and his dog wants $s in Cuba. Sterling has little value on the street. You don't stop laughing because you grow old, You grow old because you stop laughing" Large print giveth - small print taketh away. "0 -
I have been to Cuba twice and the first time we took a few $ just to see how we got on and we ended up bringing them back. The penalties for the people (the locals) caught with them are fairly stiff and they wouldn't touch them with a barge pole!Aim to win in 2013 - a holiday somewhere nice, New York break, treats for family & friends & some cash would be lovely!!!0

The Greenback is THE acceptable currency on Cuba - perhaps not in the major hotels etc but if you're sightseeing, eating, drinking, buying then everyone will take it.0

That all changed a few years back.
US$ are NOT accepted.
They use the Cuban Convertible for tourists and the Cuban Pesos for locals0 -

I lived there for many months on a yacht and did business there only ever using US$ and cuban$. Perhaps as a 'two week' tourist you will be running a risk using the $ as you don't know who to trust and the locals don't know whether to trust you.
The locals are really great people and I would not like to see any of them put at risk. So, yeh - spend sterling and enjoy yourself. You don't stop laughing because you grow old, You grow old because you stop laughing" Large print giveth - small print taketh away. "0 -

And that was after November 2005?0 -

What do you think the US citizens spend? I know the US gov't discourage US citizens visiting Cuba as it was described to me by a US gov't official as 'trading with the enemy'. But as I was British the US gov't couldn't touch me. 100's of US citizens do visit Cuba each year, often entering and exiting via the Bahamas They normally take some Canadian $ or some € so if they're stopped on return to the US they can prove they haven't been spending the US$ in Cuba. Perhaps giving too much detail here.
"US£ are NOT accepted" is absolute piffle. But as I inferred in a previous post you have to know your way around and be street wise.
Therefore, don't take risks, enjoy your holiday and spend sterling. You don't stop laughing because you grow old, You grow old because you stop laughing" Large print giveth - small print taketh away. "0 -
Well, when I went in November 2007 the few Americans I met with were changing their $ for CUC.0
