Are they asking for too much

Hi

Just want your views.

I have rented my house out to a group of tenants and they have been there around 15 months. They are generally not too demanding and, if anything goes wrong at the house, 90% of the time I get it fixed within a week.

They have just asked me if I could provide them with a second hand TV. They already have a cooker, fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. As I have already provided them with the major appliances, I don't feel giving them a TV as well is necessary.

What does everyone else think?

A tv?!?! Since when do landlords provide TVs?! A hotel maybe...

I'm sure they can manage to get an old one for free somewhere, or you could get one off Freecycle for them, although if it broke, then they'd keep asking for a new one!!

I'd laugh at them for being cheeky!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • Like the other posters said, they can get one for free off freecycle....

If you get them one, they may start asking for dvd player, stereo etc.

    Personally I wouldn't do it:D
  • I have tennants in my house and the more you give the more they want... Don't do it, sounds like you've provided plently already, you have to draw the line somewhere!

Every student (rented) house I ever lived in had a tv in it. I actually had my own and always ended up asking the landlord to remove theirs as mine was bigger and nicer! But I would have thought it odd if there wasn't one to be honest. Maybe that's just the York market?!

No need for you to get them a telly, they are taking the mick.

Tell them to buy their own (easily had for £10-£15 if you check the local newspaper ads, or free from freecycle).

#1. The people that run these "sell your house and rent back" companies are generally lying thieves and are best avoided

#2. This time next year house prices in general will be lower than they are now

#3. Cheap houses are a good thing not a bad thing

    Definitely don't.

My guess would be that if you provided a TV they would then ask you to pay for the licence (or tell an inspector that it was nothing to do with them and give your name).

Once you provide something you are responsible for maintaining it. So get a cheap second hand TV and in a few months time they will tell you its broken and that it took up a lot of room and could you get a flat screen next time.

I have never been in a rented house that comes with a tv and it is something that I would never expect to be provided by a landlord. It is very cheeky I think

As adults, going to University is partly about experiencing the real world.

Buying a TV and not whining to a responsible adult that you want one is one of the lessons of life.
