Has anyone bought one of these for lo's hands and feet. I fancy getting a 3d one but im worried it wont turn out any good. I really regretted not doing it for my first born so really want to do it for my little man.
If anyone has bought one where did you get it from and is it any good.
Many thanks

i done one with salt dough, and painted it pink for my little one. just pressed her hands and feet in it made it look like a plate . dated and named it with a cocktail stick .
it look great ! but no i never got a 3d kit done . i also had a plate one from my ds when he was 2 weeks old which he broke when he was about 4 years . i cryed when it got broke. but he just redone one when my dd was 2 and now i have a hand print of both.
saying that the one i done when my ds was small was very fragile and as the years went by would have fallen appart naturally anyhow. hes 8 by the way ......
i think they are made from plaster of paris which my sons foot/hand print was orginally made from and they dont last, chip and bits fall off.
well thats unless yours is one of them gold plated on, then go girl and make some salt dough and print your kids feet and hands for cheap and they last longer .
( see remember long times ago when you saw naff pleated dough girls and naff fruit baskets in peoples kitchens

) well my kids feet, and hands in them now and in years to come peeps will say remember doras naff feet and hands in her kitchen ..........................

TK Maxx had a few 3d casting kits in today (aberdeen - but all over im sure).
They were £19.99 instead of £39.99 - i think they gave a bronzed effect.

Hi, they usually have leaflets in Debenhams in the baby section about the castings. My friend had one done a number of years ago (3D one). Personally I find it a bit freaky!!! It looks like she chopped the baby's foot off and put it in a box (thats just my opinion).
When our DS was a baby we did foot prints of his with black paint and framed them. I absolutely love it to bits and the good thing was it cost next to nothing. He's 5 now and when I look I can't remember his feet being so tiny - wish we'd done his hands as well.0 -
We got 2 out of Mothercare (I think, £14.99 each?) for presents to the Grand parents at Xmas.
They were pretty good, get a decentish frame in which the mould goes into one side and a photo the other.
Turned out pretty well. I would recommend!0 -
The professional ones use dental alginate to make the firts mold because it sets in seconds. It also changes colour as you are mixing, so you know when it is done.
I had my daughters done when she was 7 weeks old by an actual company who come to your house. It was excellent because they had to do nearly 8 attempts for a flat hand (missy kept on screwing her hand up). They come back on 3 different days so missy didn't get to wound up. Although it cost me more than doing my own, we would have used all of the moulding up just trying to get a hand.
Just done a search on ebay and THIS looks like the best deal to do your own home version because there is enough to play with.
Edit: Just noticed that the seller was the one who done my home visit :P"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye."...Miss piggy0 -
Also, the one we used - If it wasn't done right, then you just re-rell the mould and start again.0

just a tip to be careful if you are doing casting with plaster of paris, as it hardens it gets hot. In the small amounts you use for this kind of casting it shouldn't get hot enough to burn, just be warm, but it might be uncomfortable and baby's skin is sensitive.
I volunteer with kids and keep hearing/seeing these anecdotal "true stories" about a child mixing a big load of plaster of paris with her hand, or putting her hand in a load of plaster to do a cast, he/she got burned, his/her hand had to be amputated... I'm not sure if it has ever happened like this but certainly when you have a lot of plaster it can get very hot so just test it out before you stick baby's hands in it!!0 -
Yes - the incident with the girl having her fingers and thumbs amputated after receiving 3rd degree burns from plaster is true - here is the link to the BBC report:

We used a local company to do ours and they were done in 3D or we could've chosen a flat style also.
They used clay or a paste to get the impression.
We know that we would've wasted money buying a kit because if it didn't work, then we would have to buy anither one etc.
Hope it's ok to post the link:

They're based in the Midlands and we went to their studio when it was open, but they also do home visits too:T
The cheaper kits in places like Poundland are not great quality - we were able to get results, but they were not what we wanted and didn't show the detail, so I guess the cheaper the kit, the cheaper the quiality and you get what you pay for.
That's why we had it done professionally because our little one was only going to be small for so long!!
