I guess that is a "no" then. Alternatively all the spammers referrers are on a beach at the moment spending their wads of cash.0

Posting links for personal gain is strictly prohibited, except in the 'referrers' section
Loads of people are takingh the P~ss
examples include
Placing affilaite links for good deals on main boards
examples
1. http://forum.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=Urgents;action=display;num=1090019203;start=162#162
2. RPoints links all over the place including signatures
3. Sites full of affilaite links posting again and again - just in referrers section
http://forum.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=;action=usersrecentposts;username=StopToShop
IMHO perhaps time to ban them all-
perhaps time to make referrers section just that
"I am member of X , and can introduce you - we both get £X"Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0 -
I think there is a difference between random marketing of something i.e. spam and a carefully researched loophole that just so happens allows a commission...
People avoid the referrers board because it is usually spam - they want the best deal for themselves.
Though I admit that policing the spammers is tough, allowing incentives for cunning deals (that make no difference to the end user) may actually improve the quaility of the site?
In a similiar way that Martin does?0 -
maybe we should get a mod on the referers board
i would like to nominate myself for the post0 -
The board isn't the problem I think - no one sees it, so you could post an amazing "grab it while you can" loophole and it would be unused.
The problem is the definition of spam and how to police spammers - when Martin emails me with some affiliate links for credit cards companies I don't think spam ... though according to the Sheriff's strict definition it is?
...but when someone replies to every thread on the debt board with a friendly message and his/her signature has a link to a work at home site I get suspicious - you missed that one Sheriff ;)
I think the best strategy is a friends reunited type £5 a year subscription - should put off repeat offenders - and any genuine MSEer would know they would save more than £5 a year (if Martin has issues about the cash he can kept it if it will affect his revenue or he can donate it all to charity?)0 -
A very good example is occurring now in the CD Wow thread...
All the links for £1.50 off are referral links of one sort or another, some give money to Burton, some to Spash plastic - but who cares - combined they give you £2 off that you wouldn't otherwise get...
Most are copied from elsewhere, and in some cases the companies like Burtons might actually have to pay as well - depends upon the deal they've done...
But who cares as long as I get £2 off - my helpfully provided link to the 50p off voucher page has been removed, but why, it wasn't doing any harm, it has nothing to do with me, but even if it did, why would it be a problem?0 -

Not too pleased with your comments about
"goose stepping"
&
"wearing uniforms"
look you broke the rules- appears got away with it
What we need is clarification of what the rules are!
if Martin says its fine , then the floodgates open. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Apologies Sheriff :-*
My issue is playing by the spirit of the rules rather than the wording; its tricky to police but it shouldn't prevent MSEers from saving cash?0 -
I have never used the Referrals board but how about getting members to post stating they have a referral link and to pm them for it ???Looking to raise some money0
-
I had similiar issue last year- seems to be decided that the following :-.
Posting in the correct section - ie Grab it, will a link to referral in referral section is acceptable .
but no potential money making links on the main boards, only posting affiliate links in the referrers section.
think this is particularly important for posters like me and others that actaully run a commercial site with aff links on it.
Also good practice to mention that "cashback sites" may also have this offer- although not compulsory.Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0
