We're getting this for hubbies 50th BD. He's a gamekeeper though so I think he'd get a kick out of it. Might not be suitable for others though?

Just to chuck in my two pennies...
My dads 60th was in November and I did a 'This is your life' style album & presentation - sounds deadly, but managed to get loads of embarrassing photos stories etc.
However, as you say that is probably too personal.
You could try getting things which he is interested in such as:
Does he like cooking? you can buy into Olive Groves and get your produce every year too (I did suggest vineyards & personalised bottles of wine only to see he doesn't drink, duh!)
I also like the idea of the wind-up torch !!! radio, my dad goes on and on about his - he loves it.
If he doesn't have any hobbies I take it he is very into his work, and maybe that is something which he spends all his time doing, can you think of anything related to what he does which would make a gift (not knowing, I can't really make suggestions)
You say he is godfather to your child, does he have other god or grand children? Could they put on a performance specially for him maybe and spend your £25 on making the performance special, i.e. hire the local village hall, make costumes etc? This would be right on the money with appreciating the effort and you could do a funny version of his life maybe, plus all the kids would get to know him much better.
On the computer tip, does he have the freeview USB you can get? They start from about 20/25quid and you catch watch all the freeview channels on your laptop - great if you travel a lot for business and are sick of having nothing to do in your hotel room apart from watch CNN
Lastly, something pampering is always great, no matter what your birthday, if it is something you will use and appreciate it is special enough. good luckOne day everything I earn will be mine and not the banks... ::rotfl:0 -

Thanks all for the continuing ideas! I think so far the closest is the Olive Grove suggestion, he mentioned the other day he's started enjoying cooking (a la Jamie Oliver) so that might well appeal. One of his kids once bought him a goat through Oxfam, and he liked that so I know he won't mind not actually having the 'thing' to unwrap as such.
My dd is his only godchild, and will certainly be making things for him in the future, but at 15 months it's a bit early yet lol.
He's a very unique character so I really appreciate all the input here, thank you.0 -
Ok, may have to scrap the olive tree idea - just looked it up and it's like £70
