60th Birthday Ideas for my Boss?

Hi, I'm hoping you imaginative and resourceful folk may be able to help me with some ideas of what to get my boss for his 60th. He's sort of a friend/mentor too (and my dd's godfather). I usually think long and hard and manage to come up with a thoughtful gift for him at birthday/xmas, and now have a reputation for doing so! However I need something extra special for a 60th.
It's not until September, so have time to organise something, and the budget is only around £20-25.
He doesn't have hobbies particularly, apart from his laptop etc but has every affordable gadget for that. He wouldn't be into an experience day type of thing, even if that was within budget. He doesn't drink, is not into music and would be very hard to choose a book for. Luckily, he DOES appreciate the time and effort of a gift more than the expense :T
Sooo, any ideas people?

What have you bought/arranged in the past for him?0

How about something engraved/embossed (unless you've done that before)?
So for example a leather diary, embossed with his name?0 -
Hmm, all his organiser/diary stuff is electronic.
Haven't done that before though!
In the past it has been things like a pair of cashmere socks in the exact colour/style I've noticed he wears, a wellie boot rack (found something he didn't already have lol), a beautiful scarf (never seen him wear it mind you), that kind of thing. Usually along with a joke type of thing like a particularly apt magnet or a chocolate slab. Once some Rohan travel bits when I knew he had a big trip abroad coming up.
He's very picky! It usually takes me ages to think of anything at all, but for a 60th I'd like it to be something special/memorable/imaginative? It's a tough one I know
Thanks both for replying!0 -
Hello
I am currently trying to get something for my FIL's 60th bday too - Its soo hard isn't it.
Here are a few ideas
A 60th photo album - and then ask friends / family to send you a picture and note that you can stick into the album for him - You could make album / scrap book yourself or ebay have loads of sellers that do that kind of thing.
How about a signed book?
http://www.signed-books.co.uk
Or cufflinks with his birthstone?
Or how about a signing plate - I normally use
http://www.pixiedance.co.uk/wedding.htm
Her plates are £45 so over your budget but you could maybe do something similar yourself.
Hope some of those help x

If he's a gadget man, Woolworths currently have rather useful gadet on sale, reduced to £15 from £30 and also available on their website. It's a Wind Up Lantern /Radio /Mobile Phone charger/ mosquito repellant/ Siren with a compass included as well. At least he'll then be well equipped in the event of power cuts !0

why not a gift card for an online site if he likes his laptop or a book on the best sites etc must admit its a hard one and depends if hes a young or old 60 !0

How about Google-imaging the name of the street where he grew up or a favourite childhood place and printing out a picture of it for him. You'd be able to pick up a nice frame within your budget for it, and I think he sounds they typw of person who would appreciate something nostalgic?skint but in luv :kisses2:0

or some work of art
or camera or another gadjet0 -
A card with 59 on it??!
Sorry not very helpfull.
I like the idea of a T"his is your life" book, photos from family of him as a child , school etc. work, I have done this before and we got people to write bits in the book about what they remembered about him etc., took a while but you do have the time and if you get all his friends and family involved could be the theme for his birthday party.
We did this for a friend with the music and everything someone reading from the book and family members etc coming on and it was really great, he loved it. A lot of time needed but not a lot of outlay as everyone can e mail you with pics and comments.
Good luck.0 -
I suggested the nostalgia/memory book/this is your life type thing to his family (he has 4 grown up children a similar age to me) as I feel it's more appropriate for them to do that, not to mention much easier as they have all the photos, memories and history etc! So thanks for those ideas, they have gone to very good use and they're quite excited about doing it.
Of course, that still leaves me puzzling over ideas :rolleyes:0
