i have a motorolla e 1000 on 3 network and im thinking of buying a contract with o2 to use free minutes for international calls through simply fone....my question is as i really hate carrying 2 handsets can i unlock the e1000 (and how easy is that) and install a dual sim holder to put both sim cards at the same time...can i use the e1000 for 3g calls (on 3) and 2g calls (on 02)...thanx for any advice

To put it simply, yes, you can do this. Unlocking it is pretty simple, just take it along to a local independent phone shop, they should be able to do it. I believe remote unlocking service is available for this phone (you just send your IMEI number to a company, and they respond with a code to insert into your handset to unlock it), but this is pretty expensive compared to the normal unlock.

For the calls, what you've said is possible to do once the phone is unlocked.
