What is TFT

Hi there

I'm buying a new tv for the bedroom. There are so many choices!!

I keep finding ones with TFT what does it mean? Also can you use 'monitor' televisions as normal televisions?? and if you can what would be the disadvantages - they seem to be a lot cheaper!

I'm an idiot so simply information would be appreciated!!

Many thanks in advance!

Some do some don't, so be careful. If you want one with Freeview check first (sometimes it says it has a digital tuner which is another way of saying Freeview)

TFT and LED will eventually be replaced by OLED (organic Light Emmiting Diode).
The big players like Sony and Samsung have released some early versions of these. I am working on reseach and develpoment in this field and there are some flexible (bendy) displays already developed and commercial factories are being built for these in Germany.

So not to long before your 40" tv will be about 4-5mm thick. Also as the displays become cheaper they will house their own small power supply and you could eventually open a magazine which instead of having a sample earea to rub your wrist over for perfume, it will play the advert too.

look up OLED on google, also used for lighting so lishting will be flexible and very low energy, as will solar cells as they will also be produced on plastic and eventually stitched into your clothes, generating enough power to charge your ipod or mobile phone.

a lot of modern TFT tellys have a PC input connector, so can be used as a monitor.
you need to read the specs carefully if you require a dual purpose video screen.
    Get some gorm.
