Washing Machine problem - feel like screaming

a knackered bearing wont affect the actual spinning cycle. itll just make the machine very noisey.
long term itll break up and the machine will make enough racket to wake the dead.Get some gorm.0 -

My DH is in the trade and he says it sounds like the carbon brushes and if you get a local domestic appliance engineer to do it, expect to pay around £50 for the job.
Some would say that £50 goes quite a way towards a new one but other people would look at the eco-side of things and would hate to dump an item that could still have years of service in it. And of course you may have to pay to dispose of it.0 -
Id say change the brushes,I had a similar problem with mine, brushes changed, problem solved0

Am still unsure on what to do, although we have some fantastic advise. Belt or brushes. Chatting to brother last night who informed me his mate deals with these problems and charges £55.00 ( works for himself, ) plus the part.
Long run am I wasting time and money.,
Still screaming....:mad::A Tomorrow's just another day - keep smiling0 -
i also feel rotten about writing off an appliance but common sense tells me that a new machine with a warranty is the best solution.
if the repair fails or another one crops up 3 months later it becomes a PITA.
if the machine is 10 yrs old then a new one just makes sense.
if you can freecycle the old machine then it lessens the pain somewhat.Get some gorm.0 -
we had similar 10 year old machine, replaced bushes as they were completely worn out, good as new for less than 10 quid and 15 minutes work with a screwdriver.:T

gives you a good idea of how to do it. yours will be fairly similar.0 -
yes thats ok if diy,ing.
but most peeps get a man in. and thats expensive.
washing machines are getting like brown goods and say microwaves. they are disposable items now. due to high labour rates in the uk and expensive parts.
we even have a disposable car now! that new car from india at 1200 quid!
more like a cigarette lighter!Get some gorm.0 -

thankyou ormus, given great advise.
Hubby can pass the machine and re-cycle no worries with this side of things. Looks like after so much discussions we will get another one.
Also, guess what our home phone isn't working now either. My mother has given us her old one, just been when the phone rings I have so stand still rather than, feeding baby, going to the toilet, doing tea, you know what I mean. Anyway I am looking on ebay for this product.
never rains but it pours:cool:
thanks guys.:A Tomorrow's just another day - keep smiling0 -
Kroome - that's fine if you're practical! Some people are even too lazy to try and FIND their washing machine manual, let alone try and read it. That's for something as basic as which programme to use. Honestly!! What they really like is for someone to come out (for free) and sort it all out for them!
Then of course there are all the people who ring up and say "help, my partner has just tried to fix the tumble drier and now the door is hanging off and all the elctric in the house has gone." For some people it's better (and safer) to spend £50.0
