TV Packaging - do I need to keep it?

Hello
Sorry, but I'm not sure whether this is the right place to post this question. But I recently bought a new LCD TV from Marks and Spencers. My boyfriend was at home when they delivered it, but he didn't ask them to take away all the packaging. The box is now sitting in our living room still and it's annoying me. Do I need to keep all the packaging in case something happens to my TV within the 2 year guarantee period??

You can't win with that one, unfortunately.
If you dispose of the packaging, it will almost certainly go wrong, and if you keep it, it probably won't.
So probably the best way to make sure the TV lasts as long as possible is to keep the packaging and store it in a really inconvenient place where it really irritates you.
On a more relevant note: Electrical stuff tends to be very reliable these days. I keep the packaging for every electrical appliance I buy, and I can recall only one occasion in the last ten years or so that I've needed it again!0 -
maybe it would be worth checking with M&S on there returns requirements.
we bought a tv from Asda some years ago and when I ran to arrange to take it back they were more concerned I had the box than the receipt, more recently I saw someone take a 2 day old hoover back as they had changed their mind and it was in a black rubbish bag0 -
My dad always used to say "Keep the box in case it needs to go back"
There are lots of boxes in the loft, lol!.....0 -
I keep many all in the loft, including boxes for items that are 15 years old, must have a clear out! But have never used one. I've always dumped TV and other massive boxes though - they are just too big.
I don't think the law on returns legally states you have to return it all the massive packaging... But there might be someone more in touch with the legalease who will know more details. More likely with a large item like that, they'll come out and repair or swap for a new one in a warranty period anyway.0 -
i keep packaging for EVERYTHING im really bad. I usually keep them just incase I wanna sell it later.0

You don't need the packaging - if it fails then it's covered by the guarantee or sale of goods act.0

Thanks for all your answers. I think I'll contact M&S and see what they say first before throwing away the box.0

Seriously ignore what they say (well if they say you have to keep it) you've bought a tv and if that doesn't work then the box is irrelevant0

You say you bought the tv recently. Is there a chance that you may change your mind and want to take it back for a refund? If so, M&S will probably want the box and the rest of the packaging back too... so they can resell it. Maybe too late for that of course.0

Ive just unpacked and installed a 50" panasonic plasma for my gran we have kept the box as I plan on moving in to the bloody thing its huge.
I keep all boxes for stuff if they will fit through the hole to the attic. mainly as I play to move at some point in the next few years and I prefer to transport stuff in their boxes especially my speakers that have nice wood cabinents I dont want them scratching during the move if it happens.0
