Sainsbury's Receipt Mistakes

I know this has popped up many times before, but the accuracy on my till receipts is pretty rubbish. But this is not my main vent.

Usually (earlier this year even), if Sainsbury's (and I believe TESCO) made a mistake, they would give you the product AND your money back. Indeed, I have got a free bottle of whiskey (amongst other things) this way, after buying and paying for one at a different price than was marked.

Yesterday, once again, I checked my receipt and it had two mistakes. This time, after checking, I was refunded the difference - about four quid - rather than getting a full refund and the items. When I enquired, the Customer Service chap said that refunding the difference has always been Sainsbury's policy and had not heard of otherwise. When I phoned the customer service helpline they said the same thing. But I know for a fact that any time in the past couple of years (up to recently - this year even) they have refunded the product. :(

Any light anyone?

I have only ever has the difference refunded at Sainsbury's. I thought it was only Tesco that gave you the product free.

I've never had a free product in Sainsbury's this way, only in Tesco. It is very annoying -- you queue for ages, explain the mistake, they take ages to check it, and what do you get? Your own money back, often not even an apology. :(

That has been my experience too, just the money refunded.

  • A slight variation on this topic for me. In Sainsbury's Metro/Local?whatever it's called, the amount of times the price displayed is one figure, but when scanned at the till, it's a different figure (always higher). Everytime it happens, I have to tell the cashier who then has to go and check the price and correct the mistake. I'm too scared to look away from the till in case I end up getting charged more money. You think they'd sort it out!!
