Sony Ericsson K850i and Mac- possible?

  • Hmmm, no idea what the icon on the phone screen is:confused: . I’ve been very un-manly & had a flick through the manual, but I cannae see anything about that icon.

Re bringing the phone to life, pressing the * key and waiting for the screen to light up before pressing the unlock button seems to work best. Seems like there’s a second or so between the two, which is kinda irritating, but we’ll have to get used to it I guess.

Not sure what key you’re supposed to use to take another picture, but as with older SE phones, if you press the button & take a picture, wait for it to save & display the photo, & then half-press the same button again, it clears the screen and allows you to take another picture.

    Hope this helps

Oh, I'm jealous Islandman! I haven't got mine yet. I'm waiting for some kind of code from Orange so that I can keep the same phone number. Then I'm going to go for the Virgin deal, 300 minutes and 300 texts for £25 a month plus you get a free ipod, PSP or £100 credit (18 month contract and phone is £65).
Orange offered me a rubbish deal to renew my contract. I went to look at the phone today in the shops, it's bigger than I thought. But... I want it :)

Rather than give chapter and verse, I returned the phone, read on!

The whole episode of that phone was a nightmare !. They wouldn't let me out of the shop without agreeing to insurance £9.99.per month. My card was taken to the back of the room where I couldn't see what they were doing with it, whilst the salesman was giving me the speil.

Once home, it was apparent to me that I wouldn't be able to see the keys easily as the numerals were grey/silver on black so that you needed to revolve the phone to catch the light to identify which was which.

After a sleepless night, I phoned the insurance company and stopped the DD.
I then phoned phones4u to establish my rights, regarding returning it. They said they would no longer want it, it was mine to do with as I wished. I said I'd remove my SIM card from it and put it back in my old trusty K750i, they said fine. I visited their showroom and told them the same. They rang head office and listened to the tape recording they'd made of MY earlier call. I left the shop with one K850i that I don't want, free from their insurance.

My next call was Vodofone. They are to get me the K800i, which came out before the K810i, but it has the 3.2mp camera and a large screen and white numerals on key pads.

What I fail to understand is how can any outlet give free phones. I now have several unused in a draw. Another being the Motorola Razr (forgotten which model), that was only used a week or so.

I am still confused. I've got the K850i and no insurance, that's ok. Phones4u have extended my 18 month contract, yet Vodafone (customer service) say as yet nothing has gone through. The Vodafone shop tell me they will give me the K800i, no insurance. But there has to be a catch.

I intend phoning Vodafone to ask if the extension to the contract has gone through yet, because if the V shop say the same, and I take out the extension there, and then the Phones4u's extension kicks in, I'll have two contracts.

    Here with a further update.

V, true to their word, produced the phone and then produced an 18 month contract..........

"STOP, I've already signed one of those next door".
"No" they said, "it doesn't show up on our screen."
"Yes I know", they said it would take a few days.
"Ah", said "V", "if you sign with us, it will override theirs".
"But what if it doesn't, I end up paying for two contacts for 18 months".
"It doesn't work like that, you can only pay once for the same number, we assume you didn't get a new sin card and new number?"
    "No".
"It might be helpful if we saw next doors (phone4u) paperwork."
    "I'll go and get it."

I share Dave's concern that there is a possibility that I could end up paying twice, and if that is a possibility, despite what "V" say, I don't think it's worth the risk. It might be just as easy to use the wretched K850i and maybe swap with someone that has what I would like, and let them have a more up-to-date phone.

have you still got the k850i?

in which case if vodaphone do give you a k800i it seems very tricky ground, your essentially getting 2 upgrades at a the same time onc3e the P4U upgrade hits, not sure about the specifics with vodaphone but you might be charged for like buying out the 1st upgrade or have to pay a fee for upgrading early, sounds very dodgy, usually P4U are the dodgy ones but in this case i would ring CS and ask them to confirm that no charges will be had by upgrading again and if you do upgrade get it written that you will not be charged. (though they may just end up pointing you to phones4u for any charges)

i would say the k800i is only about £80 its worth just sticking to the k850i upgrade, selling the handset and buying a k800i to put the sim in
you'll still end up nicely in profit

Prior to your post, I 'd been thinking that would be the best course of action, so when you wrote along those lines, you more or less helped to make the decision for me.

If I persevere with the K850i it may prove to be all unfounded panic on my part. But, as you say, I will always have the option to sell it, I'd be able to put my SIM in an old K750i that I will always keep, whilst I search for a K810i or K800i

Yes, I know this has dragged on, but I see it as a learning curve for others.

More to the point, why is this post in techie when there is a dedicated thread for Mobiles ????????/
