  • After the debacle with Chelsea I sent the wife to Leeds A&L and luckily they took her application on the spot. £10k locked up until next year, £680 odd interest, as getting it tax free monthly.
Result, though she was really pressed for a "financial review"
    Nothing to see here

Hmm. If they ask me for that I'm gonna tell them that I've brought my life savings with me....to invest in their bond.

...unless they think that isn't a good move.... :rotfl:

Made an appointment yesterday and went in today to open the account. Very straight forward, appointment was apparently for 45 mins but we were only there about 10 mins. The advisor didn't try to sell us anything else or give 'advice' but he did say how busy he'd been over the last few day with people opening the account!
  • As it's a branch based account and as it's not been much publicised yet (ie weekend press) and as it's not blindingly obvious on the website then I suspect it will be several more days at least before they get significant uptake (and after all, it appears they do need the cash more than most).

Hope people dont make too many financial decisions based on other peoples "suspicions"

7% fixed rate offer stopped being marketed at lunch time today, it was obvious that Best Buy Tables and word of mouth on the internet would gain A+L "significant uptake" ;)

    Hmmmm,

It's still being marketed on their internet site (or was at 2:30pm). Anyway 'not marketing it' isn't the same as stopping opening accounts.

It's pretty bad they want to force an appointment and hard sell all their crap products, glad I didn't get in in time now, I can't be doing with all that, haven't the time or the patience to listen to ill informed advice.

Couldn't agree more. Simply say at start that you're not interested in any other products and you don't wish to discuss anything else - always works for me.

Anyway I was in and out of branch in 15 mins - not bad for an extra £50 in interest

So this is actually 5.6% right. Why dont people just quote what you actually get.
Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives
call your credit card company, tell them that you want to leave, 99% of the time theyll lower your APR%
Remember when that Bank Manager or Salesperson smiles at you, all he sees is £ notes. Dont forget the motto, "the wider their grin, the more debt your in"
