Graduate Schemes

Hi, not really moneysaving this but advice is needed.

I'm a graduate who once again has let the bulk of the graduate schemes pass him by, mainly because I'm a complete fool. Obviously 2:1 in Biology doesn't make you smart!

Does anyone know of any graduate schemes still open? I'm not sure what I want to do but some choices would be excellent!

  • what sort of work are you looking for?
    :D
  • almost all will have closed before xmas (well the decent ones). Best bet is to get some experience in a relevant field that you are interested in and apply early next autumn.
  • From the way you've posted you clearly haven't got a specific one(s) in mind, so bear in mind that the big graduate schemes aren't the be-all and end-all. There's plenty of good graduate-level jobs with excellent career prospects advertised year-round. When you see one you fancy get in touch with the employer (or ask at interview) about how they will help your development.
  • I have done one graduate scheme, and got an interview on the 22nd. I just don't know if its what I want...

i am about to apply for a graduate scheme, but i have a question and would be grateful if anyone could give me advice. the scheme i am going for has 2 areas that i could and would be happy to work in. should i let them know i would be happy to do either, or are they looking for people to know exactly what they want to do?

Many graduate schemes do still have vacancies. However, if none of them are right for you then it would be better to apply next year for what you really want. There are plenty of interesting and worthwhile ways to spend a year.

Of course, many (most?) graduates don't do any of these schemes, and manage to have perfectly satisfactory lives without them.

If they're radically different I wouldn't say as it show's you're unsure about what you want and therefore you may leave (if it's not what you want). If they're quite similar it probably wouldn't hurt to say you have an interest in the other as it shows the company is right for you and a future area you could move into/be useful in.
  • The big 4 accountancy firms will usually still be taking applications
  • Take a look at https://www.prospects.ac.uk .. plenty of graduate jobs on there.. you might want to be more specific than just wanting to 'go on a graduate scheme'
