new barclaycard limit a waste of time

Just received my new barclaycard. Great i though, can transfer a couple of balances from me and the missus (i have £1500 on 1 card, couple of others have zero balance)

However, i then notice my credit limit is £500  Call to activate card and question limit and i am told its the same for all new customers and can be reviewed in 6 months. Told her to cancel it there and then (my partner and i have very health earnings)

So just a warning for all - a waste of time and a credit search on my file :(

  • Similar thing happened to me. Mine arrived with 1.6K limit to be reviewed in 6 months. My current bank CC gives me 8.5K (and then decided to up it to 12.5K without me asking). At the time I didn't have zero balance on that or on another card. I didn't cancel though because I needed to transfer 'toot suite'
  • Same here. Ideally need to transfer around 2k but they've given me a poxy limit of £900. Still, I don't need to transfer it all urgently so I'll see if I can transfer some now and more in the future if they up my limit. Should've known not to go near Barclays.
  • Same here. My wife have a very good credit limit with natwest cc 2800£ and eggmoney 2000£ and barclayscards has offered a limit of 520£. ridiculous, dont ever apply for a barclayscard, its waste of time. Keep clear of Barclayscard, get virginmoney i got a limit of 5000£ with it from start.
  • However if you build a long term relationship with them then you get bigger limits.. and you never need pay more than 6.9% again.

A bit of stability in your portfolio is worth it's weight i think.

I have had the same credit limit from Barclaycard for the last 3 years, a whopping £300 to spend! Never got any reviews or anything, best thing was, they charged me 29.9% interest! What a sucker I was... this board really educated me!

    absolute crap
spent half an hour arguing that the credit the missus had from 2k was reduced to 200 quid said they could not aNYTHING
TOLD THEm IN NO CERTAIN TERMS WHERE THEY CAN SHOVE THIER CARD AND THEIR BANKS
    :EasterBun
  • I have also been with them for a very long time, my limit is 4500, 6.9%. I don't really use this card very often, however they've been good until now, no limit or IR changes.
  • Maybe it depends on how long you have been with them?

I've had my current account with barclays for 11 years now. I had a Barclaycard a few years back with a £750 limit, missed 4 payments and very nearly defaulted on it.

I have quite a lot of unsecured debt (see sig) but a fairly OK credit file, with 4 missed payments from years back (one of which is Barclays) and I got a £5K limit @ 0% for 14 months just before Christmas.

Look at my signature and go figure, who knows!
  • i was just wondering that does anybody knows that if i cancel my barclaycard because it has very low limit and i have right to cancel within 14 days which starts from yesterday. So if i cancel now, will it be showing in account information section of my credit report. Thanks.
