    Returning to your original post.

    PNC

The Subject Access provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998 give individuals the right to request a copy of any information recorded about themselves or confirmation that none exists, providing the fee of £10.00 is paid and the relevant application form completed

Contact your local police station and ask if they have the form or if you can download it from the local constabulary's website. I don't know how long they take to produce the report for you.

If the organisation really wants this before an interview, then there may be a delay.

    CRB

If they are going to ask for a contribution of only £10 (refundable) then it is a bargain. The cost to them will be greater. It is more likely they will actually ask you for the full cost - around £35 - but you need to check with them.
  • If any employer could insist on a CRB check then it would make the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act completely pointless.

CRB checks do make RoOA pointless. I have previous convictions that are now 12 years old, but still have to declare everything when i go for a position in, say, a financial or caring institution. I am still paying for my mistakes of years ago, by having to declare them.

Have you had advice on how to disclose, impecunious? I believe NACRO can help with this - if it's causing difficulties in your search for work it would be worth consulting them!

  • Hi All

A PNC check is purely for the Police National Computer - probably a £10 fee and done through your local police station. You need copies of ID and addresses for the last few years - essentially you get everything held about you on their computers regardless of force.

A CRB is like the above but much more extensive - it includes more history and even comment from the Chief Inspectors etc...
