Any advice on these will be welcomed.

You can apply for your own CRB check, we use Disclosure Scotland - I think it costs more than £10 though. I suspect that it is the same thing as a PNC check (police national computer check) as I don't think the police will routinely run a check prior to empoyment. Perhaps the employers used the wrong terminology? If you do apply for a CRB check, there are 2 types: Standard and Enhanced. The enhanced is used for woking with children and in postions of trust, it will show everything, including cautions, nothing is "spent".Dani X

Why on earth would they want these just for working in a call centre? Surely you're entitled to be covered by the legislation covering "spent" convictions unless working with children/vulnerable? Are they trying to get round the legislation?0

I have no convictions not even motoring so not worried just puzzled at the fact the wanted one from me ie pnc and they want £10 from me as well? Even the agency is perplexed.

You cannot do your own CRB check in England, your employer has to do that. Working in a call centre you can be privy to lots of details, e.g., no. of children, names, dates of birth, bank details etc.The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10

You can do your own CRB check in England. You go to the Police station, ask for a form which you fill in and return with the fee. You then get a printout a few weeks later.0

Whatever that is (probably a PNC check), it's not a CRB check. CRB checks require more than just filling in a form and paying the fee - you have to provide ID as well. And you don't get it from a Police Station.0 -
you can do your crb by applyin for it from the criminal records beauru but it cost about £32 .
if its and enhanced disclosure it will be sent to the police stations to obtain the pnc information

Sorry - from the CRB's own website:
The current legislation does not allow the self-employed or individuals to apply for a CRB check on themselves.0 -

There appears to be some confusion here - You can do a Data Protection Check on yourself at any Police Station for information - a small fee is required.
The Police Station you attend will only be able to provide information that that Force holds.
For example if you were dealt with by Devon and Cornwall Police it is no good asking Lancashire Police for that information.
A CRB Check will deleve deeper and is not the same thing.0
