If any employer could insist on a CRB check then it would make the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act completely pointless.

There are some jobs however that are not covered under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act due to the sensitivity of the information or proximity to vulnerable adults and children, so this can be compulsory in some cases.

Of course, but I doubt that many call centres come into this category - unless it's a job with Childline.

no for my job (i work in call centre) YOU NEED A CRB enhanced disclsure due to nature of business

thanks for all the input but does any know if a PNC check and a crb check are the same thing or something completely different

They are different.

Google Police National Computer and East Midlands and see what you get. This seems to be what your prospective employer is seeking.

As I said before, not many call centres involve working with children!
