Barclaycard Scam

Options
Hello,
About two years ago I contacted Barclaycard to change my pin number, and now two years on when checking my statement I see that I have incurred a charged of about £26.
I contacted BC to find out what this payment was for and they said that when I changed my pin number I was signed up for card protection at the same time. They say that I was given twelve months free protection and then at the end of the twelve months because I did not cancel it they started charging me.
I never agreed to have this protection I never signed anything, and as far as the twelve months free protection is concerned that’s a joke because if I had a problem I would not have claimed because I was unaware that I had it.
I have contacted BC several times but they say that the issue is with the card protection people and promptly pass me through to them. The card protection people say that its BC who should refund me because they have miss sold me a policy.
Last month I lodged a complaint (Via The Phone) with BC saying they miss sold me a policy but to date nobody has contacted me. I do not know how the complaint procedure works and I don’t know what to do next.
I have refused to pay this charge but I am incurring late payment and interest charges.
I am not the only one with this problem I have done many internet searches and found lots of people with the same complaint but unfortunately no one knows what to do about it.
It would appear that BC uses the defence that because it was two years ago you must have agreed to it at the time but have since forgotten.
I would appreciate any advice.

    Barclaycard's complaint procedure is here...

    http://www.barclaycard.co.uk/personal-home/customer-service/complaints/index.html

Make sure complaint has, in fact, been formally registered as a complaint, and not some informal 'grumble'.
  • Thanks i will get right on it.

They all do it. It's a clever con and almost pure profit for the card company. This is how they make billions of profit every year.

If it was me I would pay the money, lodge a complaint and claim the money back. Not paying and incurring late payment charges is only going to hurt your credit record.
I've given up trying to get my signature to work with the new rules, if nobody knows what the rules are what hope do we have?
  • hi my partner has been having problems with barclaycard dealing with his complaint now for 4 months on the phone to them every week just to be passed round the house's, after a long search on the internet today i have found a site http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/ phone them they will take your complaint and do it for you barclaycard will then have no choice but to deal with it, if bc have already accepted your complaint then these people will get an outcome for you their phone number is 08450801800 its a free service.
    I hope this is helpfull

Make a formal complaint in writing... put at the top of the letter this is a formal complaint.
ask for a copy of the signed agreement
say that if they reject your complaint can they give a final response letter so that you can complain to the financial service ombudsman

send it recorded delivery, check its been delivered (can do it online).
    keep a copy
they have 40 days to resolve the matter before the obdudsman service will deal with it.

ask them to provide you with written proof that you agreed to take out the policy........
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)
  • There was a BBC whistle blower program about a year ago about barclays employees signing people up to things they didnt want in order to get commision.

AVOID, AVOID, AVOID Sharkleys Bank ;-)

Pay it, cxompliain to Barclays then to the FSA then to the small claims courts, obviously take it as far as needed to get your stolen, defrauded money back.

That won't do any good as he/she was signed up to the policy over the phone.

  • Hi
Thank you for all your advice, I will pay the bill then complain and try to reclaim the stolen money.
It would appear that the scam is run by Barclaycard employees who earn good commission for themselves and at the same time nice profits for Barclaycard who are happy for it to go on. Apparently Barclaycard call it PLUSABLE DENIAL
