Hello everyone
I have to say this is what has saved me money, before I found this website, just over a week ago I would spend as much time going though ebay, and spending money, now I am glad to say i have not looked at ebay at all, and come straight to this site.
I too will be leaving my purse at home from now on as i am a impluse buyer! Just before christmas I saw some lovely scarves for sale in town, so i brought 6 of them!!!!!!!!
Give a man a fish and you will feed him for a day, teach him how to fish and you will feed him for a lifetime
Finally dealing with my whopping debt!0 -
Not read all the replies yet but I'd say if you wanted to pop a little "reminder" in your purse, how about thinking of something you'd really like if you didn't have the debts/bills (ie a holiday etc). Either take a pic out of a magazine or just write a little note to yourself. Everytime you thnk of spending something look at the reminder and say to yourself....."I will never get this if I spend on more crap!"
I hadn't thought of this until I read your post but I think it may stop me, so I'm gonna nick the idea
Me and hubby still haven't had a honeymoon (been married 5 yrs this yr) so a pic of my dream holiday, sun, sand, kettle drums in the background) is going in my purse right now!!!!!!
Good luck

I only carry cash - draw budgeted amount out each week and stick to it. My main problem was that I didn't think of my debit card as 'real money'. i agree that keeping a spending diary is a must - makes you realise how much money you waste.0

I have saved loads since I started doing my food shopping online. get the money off vouchers for free delivery and more usually of here. You save your time and your petrol on top of this
I do my online shop weekly and order everything that we may need for the week, ie: batteries, stamps etc. I order using a strict menu plan.
by shopping like this, you aren't tempted by any special deals that you don't really want or can afford.
when i do go out, I only take a £1 and keep away from the shops at all costs
I was thinking of doing the food shop online, transfer my food budget onto my pre-paid card, that way I can get things that I can't carry. Have very little storage space though.0 -
I withdraw £30 every Friday after work and tell myself this is all I am allowed to spend until the following Friday. Before the money used diseappear and I was constantly withdrawing money but after starting this I suddenly think that every penny counts. I feel really proud of myself when there is £10 left the following Friday.
2 days per week I work in a different location further away from home so I used to take the bus both ways but now I walk one way (usually in the afternoon) and that way I save £3 per week which I am collecting in a special tin to a treat. Extra bonus is that I am getting fitter as well.

Cheers guys; some really good ideas there!!
Have realised my 'spending diary'; as it is now, doesn't exactly work as I've never looked at it to see how much I'm spending on certain things!!
So plan is to now have a peek at the online one, and start my own spreadsheet on my PC. I've always found the 'pre done' ones too hard to use; I suppose when I make my own I know how I need it to be. Not a genius with speadsheets though, but will give on a try

Not a debit card either do dont get drawn into spending what i havent got, I have to go to the cashline to withdraw my £10 which i wont tend to do if its only for a bar chocolate and juice. Also set it up so can only withdraw £10 a day!!!
This is fantastic - what a great idea! Will all banks do this or is it just certain ones? I have ac's I don't currently use with Halifax & HSBC. I wonder if they would do it - any idea's anyone?Debt @ LBM - 15th Dec 07 = £33,223 / 9 weeks on = £32,130 (over 1k paid off)

Actually having money I'm free to spend always stops me spending - find the logic in that one :rotfl:No longer using this account for new posts from 20130

Sorry Gemmzie, I don't!!! I wish I did though

One thing I thought of is that once I've paid off these debts, I can see how long it took; and I can save as much of that, if not more in the same time?!? If that makes any sense
