Music Licence

Before continuing I should explain that I run my own business;
CMLC - the Copyright Music Licence Consultancy. www.c-m-l-c.co.uk

I came across your discussion today & hope the following helps !

The licensing bodies are concerned that their market is shrinking.

Traditional music venues are closing down rapidly - it was suggested today that as many as 67 pubs are closing each month !

Due to this, the licensing bodies are seeking out new streams of revenue to distribute to their members (songwriters, composers, music publishers, record companies & performers).

Call centres, music licence managers, the copyright protection office, are constantly on the lookout for premises using music without permission.

It is a legal requirement for any business, including charity shops, to hold appropriate licences. The licensing bodies argue that their members do a lot for charity throughout the year, by giving free concerts etc.

Should you be found to be using music without permission, your licence can be backdated, you could pay a punitive charge and ultimately you could face court action and fines.

I am in the process of adding a FAQ page to our website, so if you have any questions, drop me aline at admin@c-m-l-c.co.uk

I look forward to hearing from you !

Craig

You Sad Cretin Creep trying to make money out of a charity shop

OP dont bother with this creep.

By the way Mr Craig Bridges I see you are based in Barnfield Road, Paignton, TQ3 your website fails to comply with various trading standards legislation. I will be informing Torbay Trading Standards of the criminal offences that your website and you have committed and I have taken screen shots with date and time all to be forwaded on.

Freya18th - have you heard of the Association of Charity Shops? The charity I work for is a member and my boss is also a member of the board so we have just found out about this. I cannot remember the exact name of the licence but I will find out for you and let you know. Its about £150 per year not £300 and is necessary for any music played outside of your home - CD or radio. I will try to remember to check the newsletter the Association sent me tomorrow and post again
Not been here in years! Hi everyone. Make £10 a day challenge = £78.45/155
• In fact I recognise your name you use to work for PRS.

You work in licensing/trading standards - Borehamwood?

erm no london where the hell did you get borehamwood from? is you IP trace playing havoc???

erm no i wont retract my comment you know and I know what your up to. I found out that you were an area manager for PRS, and there is surely enough work out there instead of going after a charity shop. You are new and you have made no other posts. You are promting a business for afee for which the op can do the research for free.

MODS you should remove these posts he is no better then a spammer.

The original poster can deal with PRS or PPL they do not need to go through you.

Are you going to get your website to comply with the law btw ?
• These people have got nothing better to do.

& finally........

As previously stated, the only intent was to inform Freya18th of the lengths the licensing bodies will go to - as confirmed by other entries. Your advice of "do not lose any sleep over it you will be fine" was, and is, wrong.

With a background in trading standards, you should be well aware of the need to hold a licence, or licences, regardless of the nature of the business.

As for being new, everyone was once - I shall continue to offer free advice as, & when, I see people posting incorrect information that could lead to someone spending more money than would have been required for their licence.

Your comments relating to me being a spammer, when offering free advice, in order to potentially save money and not pay a punitive higher charge when found to be using music without permission is totally wrong (again).

Maybe I should report you for the agressive tone of your comments ?

Thank you for asking about the website - Torbay Trading Standards were more than happy to give it a clean bill of health today. In fact the words used were "it's perfect"...........

Well if its free advice to all on this forum then its greatly appreciated (Now thats money saving). Maybe Martin in his next Money Saving Tips 30/01/08 can point out that you/cmlc are offerring your services for free on this forum as oppssed to your usual price of £19.99

Once again thank you very much for offerring this service for free I will point people to come on this forum and place them in your direction. I will be making seperate posts on the grabit and freebies section about your exciting offer.

Many Thanks
