I have no idea if you've made a mistake.
What dates were utilised? Was the price quoted in euros or £s? Did the Holiday autos price include the late opening?

I've just had another look at the site and the prices seem rather high on some bookings. Stick with the insuranceforcarhire tip.
I've checked and they are on the FSA registry.

Thanks for your further help - what I'm after is a Punto (group2) from 6/10 15:30 to 22/10 15:30 - the price I'm getting is £502 or 700 euros. this link may take you to my quote - http://www.rent.it/acquarent/en/rates.asp?gruppo=B&un=13&gn=6&man=102005&on=15.30&ur=13&gr=22&mar=102005&or=15.30&ad=8&ad=7&prom=

    Am I doing something wrong?

Probably not. That's just horribly expensive. Avis with code comes in at £213.51. Add 51.45 for insurance4carhire. £265 in total. Just over £16.50 per day with all excesses covered.

Holiday Autos comes in at a similar price, but DOES NOT include the Excess Damage Waiver.
If included this changes the cost to £297.46. Also there appears to be be no Theft Excess Waiver!

Recommend you go with Avis(plus code) and insurance4carhire.com

Tried Avis http://www.avis.com/AvisWeb/home/AvisHome then use the code D005297
    on the second page

Be wary with Avis - I've found out that the excesses for Italy are a wopping 850 euros damage and 1700 euros theft - they'll cover the damage for 12.5 euros and theft for 9 euros, but this puts the overall price up dramatically.
  • Thanks for top Car-hire tip - we used the avis voucher and the insurance4car.com leads and managed to get a great deal - not just for now but for the rest of the year! :T

autoeurope had the best deal for me - you can also see who the car will be booked through before you complete the deal - mine was with Europecar - low excesses.

    Have a look at

    www.insurance4carhire.com

£49.50 per insurance tax of 5% for one years European insurance for all super liability insurances thefts etc. Much much cheaper than buying directly from car hire desks
This has proved to be much cheaper than taking out similar policies through Avis for me so thanks for pointing them out..

Just to make them a little cheaper though.....

If you go to tiscali.co.uk and sign up for (free) membership, there is currently a £10 discount on each of these policies from insurance4carhire

**NB the insurance4carhire link above contains a referral ID - this is for the tiscali discounted rates, and you may be able to use it without signing up for tiscali - it is not an affiliate link that benefits me**

  • Personally I wouldn't even attempt to drive in Rome, it is mad, completely out of control.

Taxi and close my eyes any day
