Gifts for Teachers

I'm a teaching assistant, and always appreciate the presents I get from the children. The trouble with smellies is that I'm allergic to everything except baby products (brings me up in ecema) so I can't use them. I always appreciate a bottle of wine!
When my son left Primary he wanted something that would remind his teacher of him, so we bought a a tie, which he seemed to like!I Believe in saving money!!!:T
A Bargain is only a bargain if you need it!0 -
Poppy9 wrote:Finally - I have to laugh as some parents who just want to impress. Beautiful gift bags (at least 6 of them too) obviously chosen and dressed by Mummy, which Mummy proudly carries into school at the end of the day when other parents are at the gates to tell little Portia to run back and give to Teachers, LA & Head. They don't impress us we just think they are mad splashing out on gifts for people who are being paid to teach their little darlings.

They may see it as compensation for having had to teach the little spoilt brats for a year. Teachers will see straight through it.Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 #18 £2021.83 declared0 -
for the xmas just gone i bought a fruit tree for my sons teacher and helpers. these are purchased on the teachers behalf and planted in a needy country. his teacher was over the moon and they get a card to say whats been done. it only cost £5 what a bargain! better than chocolates any day!!
also.. when he left nursery i went on the internet to find a nice poem about school and teachers, got him to draw a picture on it and write his name on the bottom and the date ,and framed it... only cost pence!spanky xx

i've never met the dinner ladies or cleaners though. i think the headmaster gives a gift to them, and he gives chocs to the lolly ladies. last year we had a new lolly lady and she had loads of gifts, the other one round the corner didn't get anything, she's sour faced and grumpy though, i think most parents only want to give gifts to staff they like.52% tight0

that's a great idea! can you remember which company organised it? i've done things like that for family before but they were always expensive, minimum of £14 and i can't afford that for teachers.52% tight0 -

What a great idea AND what a bargain. Stretching that idea a bit, can't you sponsor animals at the local zoo for a few pounds? That would be quite cool too..."hey miss, I've bought you a stick insect for the next 3 months"!Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Thanks everyone for all the great replies, I have gone for good quality smellies, courtesy of Boots, they had some great stuff reduced and some really good priced other smellies too, incl. Barefoot Doctor sets for only £2.00! Even got one for me, not so moneysaving! Then popped into Allsorts and got some nice shiny bags for a good price and some posh grown up stickers from the Art Shop so kids can make their own cards for the teachers. Used my 10% off voucher too!
I did like the tree idea though and if you remember where you got them from I would like to do that in the future for friends/family.

What some of the mums do is have a collection amongst those who want to . Then put it towards vouchers for the teacher.
The children all sign the cards that go with it.0 -
when my nephew left his nursery school my sister got a gift for the nursery instead of for the staff. she bought a piece of furniture for the wooden dolls house and it was really appreciated by the staff.
if there are a lot of staff you feel you want to buy for maybe buying a charity tree or a goat or something between them would be nice. the certificate can go up in the staff room then. i think we might have left it too late for this year though, certificates might not come in time.52% tight0
