  • If you are not already on DLA I'm just wondering if you could claim it ( or Attendance Allowance if over 65)? Too late for the £60 one-off payment, but could be a valuable long-term help and passport to other health benefits.
Your local CAB could help you fill in the forms, or Age Concern.

I notice that some of you are receiving the Christmas bonus, have you also rung your fuel supplier to see if you are eligible for the discount scheme? SWALEC [at the moment] offer the biggest discount. Its means tested, by the fuel company. Proof of income etc required. If you spend 10% or more of your income on gas or electricity and you receive certain benefits, you might be entitled. I did and qualify for 20% off gas and electricity.

The Christmas bonus and the £60 are also paid to the non-means-tested.

DH and I got ours today. It goes straight to savings I'm afraid, because since his serious illness in October we've spent a few grand, and with the upcoming surgery in the next 2-3 weeks we may need to replace the car with something a little more roomy. 4th knee replacement within 5 years, there may not be enough bone left to anchor the new prosthetic joint so Plan B will be to stiffen the knee completely. As it is, he can get into the driver's side of our little Peugeot 206 but not into the passenger side. He was taken to hospital last Friday by volunteer car, a big silver Mondeo, and he managed to get into the passenger side without too much difficulty. If the knee replacement is successful (please God!) he will have a bendy knee so no need to replace the Peugeot. We are desperate to get away for a few days when all this is over. One good thing is, there are good deals to be had all over the place, used cars, hotel stays, you name it.

I believe pensioners are being paid this month and those on other benefits in February/March.

So you may have a little wait, alas.

I'm on Pension Credit. Had a CWP in January, but no £60 yet. Maybe it's in alphabetical order - my name starts with an R.
