Phew! Just finished sewing my Mum's Mothers' day present. Has been soooooo long since I did any embroidery - had forgotten how sore your finger ends get. Shame I'm totally incapable of using a thimble. Does anyone else have a solution to this? Or should I just toughen up by doing it more often?
Here's a link to the finished article (she hopes....): http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=773629 Am quite pleased as it is made entirely from (admittedly some rather generous) scraps.
Went to fabric shop yesterday (its becoming a bit of a habit). Got some blue hawaiian print stuff for a skirt and some nice green-y linen. Don't know what to make with the linen though...
Is that how you spell labels?
Only joking.
It really good did you design it yourself?

Wow, Claire, that is fantastic, you have a very lucky mum!:T
Did you really embroider thay tiny little fork and things all by hand? that looks so neat, I'm very envious.
Mrs F x0 -
Rikki, funny you should say that - I had a panic when I got to the 'e' that it might be spelt 'lables'. There wasn't much to design, I just chopped the flappy bits off a suitably sized remnants and used them for pockets.
Mrs F, the embroidery is my own. I had a needle-groove in my forefinger when I'd finished! We had enforced embroidery on a Saturday (oh yes!) morning at school - chain stitch is really the only thing I can remember these days, but it has stood me in good stead!
Morwenna, thanks I'm flattered, but I think my Mum might say no...Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.0 -

So glad I've found this thread:j . I don't know anyone else who sews! I used to sew loads for myself, the house and the kids but somehow just got out of the habit. Had my machine repaired a week or so ago and having a great time. I've been altering clothes (6 Pairs of OH trousers - he lost weight) shortened a dress and skirt, which were unwearable as far too long, shortened some curtains & made a bag out of an old pair of jeans. Thought that you may be interested in this site http://www.threadbanger.com/blog and this one which I have mentioned elsewhere but its a great idea http://nikkishell.typepad.com/wardroberefashion/ so no apology.
Where is the cheap fabric warehouse in liverpool?? mentioned earlier in the threadDoing a boring job but thinking of the money!!0 -
