Thanks pubbie8. Having read some of the threads on the Almeria forums recommended on here I am starting to wonder whether it would all turn into a nightmare. An awful lot of people seem to run into an awful lot of problems when trying to purchase in Spain. When we bought in France it all went really smoothly but maybe we were just lucky, I don't know. I will research the areas you have recommended.

The vast majority have no problems, but it is a big decision and you need to think carefully.

I am amazed at those people I know who have bought "on the cheap" in areas where they knew full well there was no planning approval, assuming that the builder would be able to get retrospective planning permission. There are many who build extensions and put in swimming pools with no drawings, building control or obtaining planning permission using black market labour.

You would you do that in the UK, so why chance it in spain?

Sorry, I do not understand why you cannot see the photo. It is a view from high in Sierra Nevada looking down on the valley

If you originally saw the image as part of a whole webpage, then linked directly to the image, this often happens.

The website owner has protected their images from being linked to from other websites. They're saying you can only view the image if you are viewing their website, which is fair enough.

What sometimes happens is that people will link to the image on somebody else's website to use it on their own. They are not only stealing the copyright/image but also using the original owner's bandwidth. It is possible that this illegal use of the bandwidth causes the website owner an additional bandwidth bill, for traffic they are not benefitting from.

Once you viewed the image as part of its native webpage, if you grabbed its properties and viewed it directly in your browser to check you had grabbed it right, you would still see the image as it is in your cache.

However, anybody being linked to the image to look at the image alone (as above) will see the server message that hot-linking is forbidden.

I would just like to 'second' one of the posters who mentioned Javea. We have only been there for holidays but, after years of insisting on trying different areas of Spain for our annual holiday, we loved Javea so much that we have been there for about the past 5 years - one year we holidayed there 3 times! It has a lovely feel to it. There is a lovely old town - immaculate without being twee like some touristy places with a daily indoor market. there is also the port area with its pebbly beach and marina and then the Arenal which is the most commercialised where the main sandy beach is. Usually this is where the duff restaurants would be in many places but we honeslty have never had 1 duff meal in all the restaurants we have visited. Obviously living there is a different matter but it's the only place I've visited in Spain where I have even been able to contemplate living. there are a few brits there (maybe more than I realise) but when on the beach you're surrounded by Spanish and French accents. Another thing I love is the greeness and the dramatic mountains. I can't wait for my next holiday there. There are beautiful coast roads between here and Moraira.

Please be advised, the images in post #6 and #15 and linked here http://images.kodakgallery.eu.com/ph...0233_0_ALB.jpg are mine. I posted on Kodak gallery so that others could view them. I assume it is SDW who cannot see it and others can see the photos?

No, I can't see them either: this is what I get

Ah well, a waste of time inserting images then?

It might work if you put image url .... around the link, but you would probably need to post each image separately.

Ah well that did not work either. Strange neither the insert link or insert image icons work on this site, like they do on a.n.other sites.
