Anyone living near Moraira/Teleuda in Spain

May be the wrong place but I know some people on this section live in Spain - need some local info on the above area and wanted to know if anyone could help me off the board. Thanks

Moraira is a small coastal town in the La Marina Alta district lying 80km north of the city of Alicante and 100km south of Valencia. Moraira remains one of the most unspoilt resorts on the Costa Blanca, with 8km of beautiful coastline backed by mountains, and a permanent population of only 9,500, although this rises to 30,000 in summer. There is a high proportion of expats living here on a permanent basis, and the area is very popular with retirees.
Moraira’s roots as a fishing village have not changed much, and today the fishermen still go out in the early hours each day, bringing back a fresh catch which is sold by auction at the traditional fish market, one of the most popular in the Costa Blanca region. Moraira is also famous for the growing of Muscatel grapes for wine making.

I am south of Alicante at the moment again in a high ex-pat area and anything we want is available in local supermarkets, there are loads of them, Consum, Carrefour, Mercadona, Lidl, Aldi, etc., etc.

Weather in March can be very mixed. We have been here for Easter for the last 5 years and none of them have been exceptionally hot, the odd one exceptionally wet!

If you are renting a property, then check out if there is heating in it, it will be necessary with a baby especially in the evenings. Take a waterproof coat with you, and jumpers/cardigans again for the evening, or if you get rainy days.

We are having brilliant weather at the moment, but the evenings and early mornings are quite cool, (though far warmer than the UK).

Beaches, I am sure you will find there are plenty and all pretty good.

    Hope this helps.

    .

Actually colder than the UK (southeast at least) in the evenings at present.

Temperature is always lower when there are clear skies at night. Those living in Tewkesbury might be glad when those clouds eventually move on?

Not trying to put down Spain missile, (just off for a month in the Canaries myself :) ).

You're right that when the sun shines brightly the temperature gets colder, we have that here too, on the UK south coast and it's a small price to pay for some very welcome sun.

But what I think many people don't realise is that the Mediterranean climate is often very dry (low humidity - whereas much of the UK has very high humidity) and this can mean that if the temperatures are low at night, the 'feel" is a lot chillier than here.

For this reason I wouldn't personally want to stay anywhere on the Med (not just Spain) without central heating in the winter, though I appreciate others may be hardier than moi ;)

No offence taken and none intended, I love a good debate.

Please be advised, central heating is no more expensive to buy and cheaper to run than in UK. Most people living here have aircon which doubles as heating for the winter evenings.

Strangely I prefer winter in Spain. July and August may be great for holiday makers, but when you are trying to do stuff I find it can be a bit oppressive. Summer in green and pleasant english countryside is much more appealing to me, but in deepest winter when the sun rarely shines not to mention flooding ............. but there will still be a hose pipe ban in July?

I hope you enjoy your holiday in the Canaries.
