cds will play fine, but your dvds wont work on their systems as its a different region (unless you get a multi-region player)0
-
The cds no problem, but if you do buy a dvd player over there, make sure that you can buy one over there that is either region free, or can be altered to become region free0

CDs are fine. DVDs are region encoded (2 in Europe, 1 in USA). So you'll need a player that can play region 2 DVDs (any player claiming to be multi region should play them). Other issue is whether the TVs can display PAL format. If it's NTSC only then I don't think the DVDs will display properly but I think most modern TVs are multi format but I'm not 100% sure on that."She is quite the oddball. To be honest, you will almost be better off buying a new TV over there, rather than lugging your old one over there. Your DVD player may suffice if it can cope with the voltage change of 240 to 110V. DVD players tend to be multi format, but not necessarily multi region0

I guess my dvd wont be any good then will it. Sorry not trying to thick but things are cropping up i had not even thought about till now. I maybe a bit of a pain for a while with all my questions. xNight Owl Member No 1 :rotfl: :rotfl:

ditto @ superscaper.
But I think it's the DVD player that needs to be 'multiformat' (as well as multi-region). So it will play a PAL DVD and transcode it 'on-the-fly' to view on an NTSC TV set.

That does seem to be the case, not had any personal experience but it would be pointless having a DVD player say "multiregion" but then couldn't display the appropriate TV format."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I agree with that statement.Red_Rose_Exile wrote: »DVD players tend to be multi format, but not necessarily multi region
The multi-format (or multi-standard) player might/will be supplied as single-region for legal reasons. Then it's up to you to unlock it.Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -
ALL DVD players sold in Europe (Yes, that includes the UK) are multi-format.
This is due to Europe being Region 2 and Japan being Region 2.
Europe uses PAL
Japan uses NTSC
So all UK bought DVD player with play both PAL and NTSC.
However most will only play region 2 DVDs (plus region 0).
You either need to find a multi-region hack for your player (usually just a case of pressing a few buttons on the remote control) or buying one already region free.
Many DVD players run on any voltage 88v - 254v and 50Hz & 60Hz especially ones that aren't big brand names and are sold throughout the world more so the DivX ones too.
You can pick up multi-region players in the US, though they're not as popular as outside the US.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
