Lovely with fresh chopped chillis in too to make chilli jam, lovely with cheese and cold meat.

The chili sinks to the bottom so give them a swirl as they cool and set and you get the chilli bits all suspended in the jelly. It looks fab and makes a great gift.

I made some apple and cinnamon jelly last year from the peelings. It tasted and lasted in the jar much better than the regular apple jam made from the fruit.
Will definitely be making this again this year - its almost free!

I'm so cheap I make sure my other half keeps the cores from apples, and I do too when I snack of them and also when we make apple pie. Always make apple jam from them, its such a good byproduct that people dont think about.

Do you keep the cores etc in the freezer until you have enough for jam? Or does that affect the pectin content?

You can use muslin, or a very fine tea-towel or even a (clean) gents hanky!

If you don't have a jelly bag you can put the muslin into a seive & then sit the seive over a large bowl.

My "jellybag" is the sleeve of one of Mr LW's worn-out shirts, with one end sewn up to make a bag. I should mention, it's pure cotton (he's fussy about his shirts;)); I don't know if poly-cotton would work as well.

Before I bought a jelly bag from Lakeland, I used a stocking,or a leg off a pair of tights instead! It worked fine:)

Loving this tip. Something else I can add to my growing repertoire of old style tips.

    Cheers :j
