What does device manager say about it? It's possible the drivers for it have come unglued, I've had this happen more than once, it's normally a case of just reinstalling the drivers to get it working again.Winnings

I had this problem with my freecom ext HDD... It turned out to be a USB 2.0 problem in Windows XP.. I had to request the fix from micosoft as it wasnt available for public download as it was part of SP3. They gave me a link to download it then 3 days later asked me to try SP3 for them...
Its been working great ever since.
You can have a look here and request if you want..

At the risk of getting a bit OT….
Got a problem with my laptop, my machine is a 17” Sony Vaio and whilst each usb port works fine with a mouse and/or an external drive if I plug two external drives in then the laptop can see both but will not copy between them.
Both drives are externally powered and still didn’t work when I inserted a powered usb hub between one drive and the laptop so I think that rules out usb power supply issues and the drives work perfectly when plugged into a desktop.
Any thoughts?0 -

Yes .. My freecom would work fine for 20-30 minutes then all of a sudden disconnect and wouldnt be recognised or recognised as USB1.1 and would take forever for the initial scan windows does to see whts on it...
No matter how nuch I disconnected or swapped usb ports it would not show up then some days it would work again.. The fix made it more stable and it can go days without any problems and if it does dissapear a quick turn off and back on again would fix it. The fix has still to go through a full test and will be fully fixed in SP3 due out soon so hopefully the fix will do just now..0 -
