Better buy - unless you need the extra 50 mins is this deal on the T630
http://www.mobileshop.com/mobile-phones/bt-mobile/pay-monthly/sony-ericsson-t630.php/PBTMOBT6300002
- its 150mins and 50 texts for £36pa. Bring the price down to £11pa by using Quidco and get £25 back.
Mobileshop are one of the more 'secure' cashback options ('secure' = they get decent feedback). This deal is also available on the Motorola V220.0 -
Has anyone got a deal from mobileshop. I find it hard to believe you can get a phone and 150 free mins a month for just 36 or even 11 pounds if you buy it through Quidco.
Surely there must be a catch.0 -
100 minutes and 100 texts, free T630 and no line rental (via cashback)

That deal posted by jf2402 also has double texts and mins for 1st 3 months. Also dont forget the £25 Quidco cashback mentioned by allthatmularky0

Sorry if I'm being dumb, but these deals seem too good to be true, so I'm cautious.
What's in it for the phone shop if you can have a phone for a year for free. What happens after the year ends, can you just cancel the deal and/or send the phone back. I've only had PAYG up to now, but these offers seem just too good to be true. Am I missing something?0 -
Nothing wrong in being cautious. You are actually not missing anything. These companies do and have been doing cashback offers for years. Mobileshop has been around for ages and does have a good reputation.
The way it works is like this. You sign up to a mobile deal with a shop. You are paying monthly line rental to the network. the way the shop makes money is through commission from the network. the shop reckons it can still make a profit by passing some of that commission back to you via a cashback. it cannot give the cashback to you straight away because it has to wait to get its commission from the network.
the phone is your's from day one. after the year ends you can carry on paying line rental, turn your number into a payg or move your number to a new network and sign up to another deal.
HOWEVER DO READ THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ANY CONTRACT YOU SIGN."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
As far as I'm aware they do these deals to get rid of older phones that have been in stock for a while. They also hope that by giving you double minutes and texts for the 1st 3 months, you'll get used to using that many and therefore go over your free allocation (100 of each) once the offer has ended.
After 12months you can cancel the contract and you usually get to keep the phone or you can renegotiate a new deal with the same provider. Its quite hard to remember to cancel your contract at the end of the 12 month offer period so they also make some money out of those people that end up paying an extra months full price line rental at the end (for month 13).
The other thing to be wary of is itemised billing which is charged monthly and usually not included in any offers (typically £1.50 per month but varies) and insurance which they may well offer you free for a few months, again hoping that you forget to cancel it.
All of these things can be cancelled or worked around though meaning that you really can get a bargain (just remember to check the terms and conditions carefully)!!
Another way they earn money is because its a cashback deal you pay full price for the line rental, your money is in their account meaning they can earn interest on it. The thing to be careful of here is that if the company go bankrupt, you dont get your cashback for this.

Thank's pin. Do you have one of these deals?
The one shown by jf2404 is actually free. 100 mins, 100 texts, free phone, free line.
It just sounds too good to be true.
Oh well, I may get brave enough to give it a go.0 -
Thanks guys.0

At present I don't have one of these deals, but I have in the past. Also both my parents have such deals, both with mobileshop.
the padre has the orange off peak any network 300 minutes deal and the madre has the 3 500 any network and 100 text deal. both are ones where they will not pay any line rental after the cashback they recieve. they also got free phones. also my padre referred my madre to mobileshop, so he got another £20. on top of that both deals were done via rpoints, so another £10 odd were gained.
One other thing with mobileshop, make sure you cancel the phone insurance. you get it free for three months, but you have to cancel otherwise they will continue to charge you (BTW this is done by a third party, who you need to contact)."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0
