Kaspersky is very good but it isn't free though. If I was going to pay for AV I'd go with NOD32.

I decided to upgrade from NOD32 to the full smart security suite and it's definitely been worth it. The best firewall I've used yet, only pop3 scanner I've used not to cause problems in one way or another and of course the NOD32 scanner which I've been very pleased with so far and the new interface does away with the only thing that let NOD32 down (pre version 3) in the past for me.

Use whatever antivirus you prefer. Both are good (Avira has far better detection rates though).
At the end of the day, its upto you... whichever runs best on your computer and you're satisfied with :)

Definatly a great improvement in the GUI... used to be ugly before!.. suppose anything's better than what it used to be :)

(I'm a proud Kaspersky Internet Security user here though :))
