Stuck bottom row of buttons/How to upgrade early?

Hi guys,
My rather battered old Nokia 6288 (not the world's most impressive phone in the first place) decided last night to stop recognising the bottom row of buttons (*, 0, # keys). They don't appear to just be stuck either, unfortunately, as I've been doing my best to give the buttons some corporal punishment.
Anyway, has anyone else had this?
I fear the answer might be to upgrade. I'm due one on the Feb 23rd but would sincerely wish O2 to bring this forward. I'm happyish with my current 18 month deal at £35/month (and my bills tend to be in the region of just shy of £40, so not eligible for O2 Select).
Do you think O2 would let me upgrade early? I've never spoken to anyone at retentions/upgrades so I'm not sure how good my bargaining position is bearing in mind my trashed phone and lowly spend! Do you think I could get the tariff down at the same time?
Thanks everyone!

is 23rd feb your upgrade date or the end of your contract? if it is the end of your contract then u will be able to upgrade 23rd jan as you can upgrade 30 days before the end of your contract. The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about - Oscar Wilde:beer:

if you call retentions and explain situation they may let you upgrade early by either agreeing a 13 mth contract (the extra month will be for the early upgrade) or they may let you do by asking you to pay a months line rental for he upgrade. This is not guaranteed but may workThe only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about - Oscar Wilde:beer:

Well... I finally spoke to O2 (on their upgrades number), who were pretty frankly useless and not willing to play ball. I had however told them my phone was broken so I guess they thought I'd buckle to anything.
They agreed to send me my PAC code though - I thought this might start negotiations. Can I expect a call from retentions before the code arrives?0 -
before leaving - I'd request a repair its still in its warrenty periodSO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0
