Orange Everyday 50 and Orange upgrades

I have been on the Orange ED50 for at least the last 4-5 years and still have the original mobile a nokia 7110.

We used to use our 50 mins a day for 50p rental to almost the max in the evenings instead of using BT but now with 18866 we don't need our 50 mins for 50p

The advantages of ED50 are that it great for ringing 0800,0845 and 0870 numbers as they come out of the free minutes (0800) free of course - which my wife uses the ED50 to call me when i'm abroad on business using telediscount etc.

I do not think the new orange tariffs have the same with 0800,0845 and 0870 coming out of the free minutes though (can someone confirm?)

A disadvantage of ED50 for us now is that fewer of our friends are still on orange so we are always having to use 18866 for them.

I rang orange a few weeks ago about an upgrade phone but they offered me rubbish really, I guess that they don't make much from ED50

The new online 120 tariff from orange interests me as we can probably get away with just 120 minutes now together with using 18866 and as its cross network for £15.00 sounds like a good deal

http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/yourplan/totaliser

however on their web page it says its only for new connections.

Should I take out a new contract and sell my ED50 sim on e-bay or stick with it.

It really depends on whether 0800s are still free and 0845 and 0870 come out of the free minutes. Can anyone help?

In my opinion it would be better for you to take out a new contract. Orange's own plans dont have the 0800/0845 etc in the free or inclusive minutes. However, u can sign up on OVP O2 plans 100 or 200 minutes and those have these numbers in the inclusive minutes but not free i.e. they come out of your minutes.

I rang Orange and they said that 0845 and 0870 aren't included in inclusive minutes.

On pay monthly 0845 and 0870 are 10p/min. If this includes the off-peak plans, then it's cheaper to call 0845/0870 than normal numbers during the daytime!

On PAYG these NGNs are standard rate.

Check yourself by calling Orange on 0800 80 10 80.

Thanks for that, the o2 tariff is more expensive than Orange's new special deal though

few things about orange's new online only offerings:
    - No roll over minutes
    - You are charged for voicemail
    - No inclusive 0845/0870 (however should not be that much or a problem, because most 0845/0870 providers have alternative geographical numbers).
    - The inclusive data, you can only use on Orange World.
    - However (as with all Orange tariffs) you get free 0800/0500 (and I think 0808) calls.

Few things to note about the o2 / ovp o2 offerings:
    - Roll over minutes for three months
    - 0870/0845/0800, etc are included in your inclusive minutes.
    - Free voicemail
    - Foreign calling is charged at Orange rates (for OVP o2)

It sounds good but is more than the £15.00 for 120 cross networks with Orange online 120.

Anyway I suppose I'm unlikely to go over my limit cos I can use the 0808 number for 18866. So I suppose the only thing I will loose out on is the Free voicemail

I would advise you NOT to give up the ED50 package. Don't be taken in by the short term benefits of the newer packages.
It's easy enough to call cross network with ED50........
