Martin, as a One Account holder that is fortunate enough to have nearly paid off our mortgage, I have to say that I was with you today and nearly shouting at the radio as Jeremy Vine failed to realise that you should use savings to pay off expensive debt. Aggghhh!
  • Hi Martin next time you are on you have to sort Sally Traffic (bosmond) out. I dont know if this has been mentioned yet but on thursdays programme she confessed to having her gas from british gas and her electricity from her local supplier. She needs help.

Her her reasoning?'I can't be bothered swopping!'

I am not sure if this is posted in the right place so apologies if not.

  • Turned on the TV this morning and there you were on BBC News talking about student bank accounts- you seem to keep popping up on TV all the time nowadays and every time I see you I think 'He seems really familiar... where do I know him from...' until I hear you talking about saving money and it clicks! Keep up the good work :)

He was wearing one on The Wright Stuff (nice black/white striped today, or might have been dark brown), so must have brought a spare one and changed later!

Martin if you read this, I would really love to know your views on the type of ads shown during the breaks on TWS, because 90% of them seem to go totally against all your deeply held values, e.g. consolidation loans, loans for the sake of borrowing etc.

Do you have to grit your teeth and pretend they aren't happening? I mean I know you don't actually watch them in the breaks (I'm not that daft!), but you obviously know what goes on. Does it bother your conscience being on that show and knowing that viewers are quite likely being tempted into the mentality of debt being perfectly okay?
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

I understand where you're coming from Bogof-Babe, and appreciate the question.

When i'm in the studio there is no live feed - so we dont see the output - we just see the studio output (ie there and then) in other words I dont see the ads. Also I'm not sure whether Five has regional ads - ie it may not be the same in every region.

Having said that - of course I'm know there are hideous debt ads on the TV, in newspapers I've written or been covered in, radio stations I appear on, other sites that this site links to sometimes. Do I like them... hell no!

Yet without the media this site would have about 400 users, even though most these days come front word of mouth, the initial ones to do that come via my media work, and my work wouldn't have been seen by anyone. Then the same debt ads would be on the TV but there's be no MSE and no MSE message getting out there. So there's a balance.

    Martin :(

  • Martin, Just a question,

How did you manage to be on LK Today and the Wright Stuff at almost the same time today? I missed the Wright Stuff today but assume you were there! I was just wondering if one was pre-recorded!?

    Thanks
