OH was talking to dd the other day. He didn't know I was there though. He said "give your mum two slices of bread and an onion and she could make a full dinner for us all".
Not quite, but he's obviously noticing. I too keep eating the oddments up out of the fridge so they don't get wasted and think twice about chucking the breadcrumbs out for the birds. Also can't help thinking what things could be reused for.
Can we use OS as a "get out of jail free" card when they come with the white coats?0 -
Well, if you saw my 'Bean Virgin' thread, you'll see that I've just started on that lark! I now have beans cooked and in the freezer, but not made anything yet. Just can't make up my mind what to start with.I now have a freezer chockablock with pulses of various types that I had lurking at the back of cupboards that I had bought dried.... Inspired by OS I cooked them all up and divvied them up into bags/portions. But there's so much of the darn things I think they're in danger of taking over the house!

Re: wierd meal combos, I have a tub of carrot and chicken soup in the fridge. One week last year I was severely skint and all I had in the house was a lot of chicken stock and some manky veg, predominantly carrots. I ended up with loads of the stuff, never gotten round to eating the last tub though...Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.0

lol it probably was your thread that i saw! So i know who to blame now!:D:D
I don't know where to start either... but I came across this recipe yesterday for All-in-one chunky winter broth - looks cheap and easy, so might give that a go.

I still have a lot of that duvet cover left and there's a bare space on the floor... :rotfl:
Also, these little tasks fill my time nicely and mean that I don't spend cash I don't really have on going out (or buying various furnishings).Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.0 -
Do you need one of those tools, or do you think a crocheting hook will do?
.
I looks like a crochet hook with a wooden handle for the rag rug making. Not a latch hook as used with wool
I would try using a crochet hook first if it doesn't work then I'd get one of these.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

One day a very OS friend of mine was asked by her DS (then about five) if she wanted the fish bones off the edge of his plate to make soup!:D

My grandmother made me a crocheted poncho in cream wool in about 1970. When ponchos went out of fashion my mother gave it back to her so she could reuse the wool. She never got round to it but when my DD was born in the 1980s she gave it to me and ordered me to unravel it and knit DD a jumper.
I knitted an aran type jumper which both DDs wore. The wool was still good so a couple of years ago I unravelled the jumper and knitted a couple of cushion covers.
WOW !!! Do you have piccies of all the items made with that same wool ?
I think that is fab ! Its a morphing heirloom :rotfl:
You can't get much more OS than that can you - just keep passing each item down to the next generation to make something useful :T0 -
No -sorry -no pictures of the poncho or jumper.I could try to take one of the cushion covers but posting them on here would be totally beyond my technical abilities-in fact I'm not sure I can even use a digital camera.
I suspect the cushion covers will be the last item-I don't think the wool will stand being unravelled again!0
