You go from Valencia to Alicante and then take the tram back along the coast in the direction of Benidorm, which takes you to another station where you have to change to a narrow gauge line. It sounds more complicated than it actually is, but the rail journey along the coast is a feast in itself.
I've have decided its probably best to stay in alicante and then take a day trip on the train to calpe. Otherwise it's a very long winded process of getting a bus from airport to valencia train station, train to alicante, tram to other train station and then the narrow gauge train to calpe.0 -

I agree with the above but I thought that you were flying to Valencia? Why go to Alicante at all when you can stay in the Valencia area?0 -
don't know why just fancy alicante - flights to valencia were very cheap and alicante were loads more expensive. Plus i get bored after a few days in the same place so splitting the time between two places is a good idea.0

if you are after a day trip to somewhere spanish i would recommend villajoysa (sp) 15 mins south of benidorm and on the trainline to alicante. famous for it's mulitcolured houses, i would head here before calpe!0

Hi there, bus from Valencia to Calpe takes 2 hours and 40 mins. It costs £7 each way, and goes every half an hour from 6 in the morning until 5 in the evening (see www.alsa.es for more details). You do not need a car in Calpe as public transport (buses and train) are excellent and cheap.
If you want accomodation in Calpe there is plenty around and as it is mid-way between Alicante and Valencia you will have no trouble getting to either.
Find a quote for accomodation as well and put the quote on the 'beat this quote' forum to see if you can get a better deal from someone.0
