Advertise in the university local to you. Write a letter to the head of department, of whichever department is most relivent to you and they as a rule will post it up on the student board within the university. Thats what we do and we always manage to find students looking for summer work.0

you can also try out your local newspaper, most recruitment articles tend to be free!0 -
Post adverts on boards in reading, guildford unis and all the other higher ed college near you.
Also, uni students will be returning to your area back from their places of study. Recruit one or two locals, just one of them spotting an ad at the back of the supermarket, will open your access to lots of them as they'll be able to find friends who can work for you too. Word of mouth should also get theose first ones through the door who can recruit their friends.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

post it on gumtree.com, and expect a huge response...."I've never had a problem with drugs. I've had problems with the police."

Some universities let you post temporary jobs on their Jobshop website for free (others you have to pay for ...) If you can't find the relevant bit, phone the Students Union and ask about advertising temp jobs.Signature removed for peace of mind0

or on reed.co.uk - thats pretty popular as far as I am aware. Local paper on job day is good, as is the job centre, me and my student friends often hit these first, as well as agencies.
Most students I know dont bother with student job shop over the summer, as they generally arent open that much, and dont have as many jobs. Id personally go with the local paper, fish 4 jobs, or reed.co.uk

Are you successful with reed? When I was a student, none of the agencies would take me on as they weren't looking for someone who could only work for the summer...plus the companies who wanted students didn't want to pay the stupid prices these firms charge businesses.
Never needed to use the paper or internet as my friends either told me where they were working and I got a job there or I wrote to lots of companies in April asking if they wanted me for the summer...worked for 4 years for me.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Lol i have been looking for jobs recently, and well having sent a lot of letters etc i only got 2 replies back.
However all this doesnt really matter as my Uncle has offered me work at his office in sussex; some of us are born lucky!
But try not to get linked up with an Agency or anything like that as it can be costly and there is normally a lot of paperwork attached, also students won't get paid as much as if they came direct to you.
So local papers and also send some information to the local colleges and schools, although A-level students have probably left i am sure there are a few interested parties at college and school still.
Depends on what you need, quals and age etc. However at our college we used to get notices in our tutor period notifying us of local businesses looking for workers. Maybe that is something to bear in mind in the future?
